The Lord Nelson Hotel & Suites

This hotel was fine. There are some pros and cons. The hotel lobby and bar is beautiful and it is in a heritage building. We were kindly upgraded to a larger room, and the living area and bedroom were very comfortable. The bathroom definitely needed an update. It looked tired and smelled slightly like sewer. It was also challenging to get the shower hot enough. The biggest con from our point of view was the parking. It is an underground lot directly beside the hotel, but the instructions about how to access it are not clear. Ideally, valet service would be offered or at least an offer of help with baggage. It was quite confusing to enter the parkade (and we were stuck behind another guest who was also confused) and our key card did not work when we tried to exit. Overall, the room was comfortable, but I don’t feel it was worth the price (which was quite expensive).

Really lovely hotel with friendly helpful staff and beautiful rooms. I recommend not choosing street view as some of those rooms might feature noise of trucks unloading at 5-6 am. Beeping and the metal on metal of the box mover (forgetting the word for the wheeled thing people stack boxes on and push up and down the ramp) hitting and dragging on the ramp. The staff had warned me but I wanted the view. After my first night I moved to a quiet room and had peace and quiet the rest of the stay.

Very clean

A free upgrade to a king size bed was much appreciated 😊 very cozy bed. The close location in downtown makes it very walkable. Free laundry on site. Friendly staff.

The elevator is a bit scary and jerky, but it did have a current certification. Make sure to drop bags and get parking pass before parking as you can only get to p2 and there is no elevator to the hotel from p2.

Very clean room, comfortable bed. We only had a view of a flat roof from our window though. Good facilities within the room, tea/coffee maker, refrigerator, free bottled water, and a range of toiletries. There is a restaurant on site and we had some lovely meals. Nice decoration in a lovely, old and grand looking hotel. Underground parking available. Good location in Halifax and walkable to most things including the harbourfront. The hotel concierge/doorperson is a gem and a fountain of knowledge.

Breakfast was not included in the price, but can be purchased in the dining room.

The hotel itself is a beautiful heritage building. The lobby is gorgeous, the room was very nice, and the Arms bar was good.

The underground parking was a bit of a hassle. It would be nice if they offered valet or help with bags.

Location, the doormen were charming and helpful.

Fan ran constantly in the bathroom (room 921) blowing freezing air, then the wall fan unit under the window wouldn’t shut off. Phones did not work in the rooms to call front desk. Told front desk about issues when checking out and they said oh, sorry for that. Hope they addressed before next guests.
