Lemon Tree Lodge

Well maintained, great location and good facilities.

The room was airy with two separate sliding doors giving access to the garden and decks with tables and chairs for dining outdoors. The room got the morning sun. The bathroom was spacious, and two glass walls of the shower opened right up. The breakfast was laid out for the guests from 8 to 9am, and included mostly breads and sugary things and dairy, which is typical for European breakfasts. I don't eat sugar or dairy, but managed to find enough: boiled eggs, fresh fruit and cold cuts.

On the map, it looked as though the train station was close by the hotel, but it was about 1 kilometre away. The hotel is on a ridge, inaccessible to the town centre just below it, so I had to walk a long way around. I don't have a car. A zig zag pathway between the two would help. The shower floor was very slippery when wet. A ramp access to the room would help anyone with large roller bags or wheelchair.

It had a nice courtyard. Breakfast with home made croissants. The room was quiet. Good location - walkable

We felt it was a bit expensive for a place with no view The beach motels along the shore seemed like a better option

Two couples, two night stay in the Garden View units which were a disappointment - dark, B-grade motel ambiance, with really no views. It’s very much a misnomer that they call this a B&B as there is no common living space and the meager, continental breakfast is from a common kitchen to be taken back to your room. The only saving grace was that there is a deck with ocean and Kaikoura views a short walk from the garden units and for their use, otherwise, this was the least desirable accommodations of our 18 day trip.
