"SADLY NOT WORTH IT :("

6.0

My husband and I spent 2 nights at Hotel Kinsley over Thanksgiving. We stayed in the luxury King Suite at 24 John Street which was lovely. Nice fireplace, beautiful decor etc. it is quite noisy, however. The wood floors are only partially carpeted and, since it is an old house, you can hear clomping from the room above. If you aren't okay with noise, probably not a good choice. The reason for the mediocre review is the TERRIBLE BREAKFAST. Seriously ... we spent quite a bundle on this hotel and in addition they charge an "activity fee" of $40/night. This is purely for the breakfast because there are zero "activities". Breakfast is the same as a Marriott Courtyard. DIY ~ Berries & yogurt and mini pastries that are obviously packaged. They can't even muster up real coffee cups. You have to drink out of paper cups. We were disappointed the first morning but took it in stride. However, this morning (at 8:30am) we arrived and there was NO COFFEE or HOT WATER and nobody around. I had to ask the guy at reception to find someone to make a new pot and after nobody showed up, and after I even yelled downstairs to the kitchen we gave up and went out searching for breakfast someplace else. This is completely unacceptable. It feels almost like they are taking the piss (as my British husband would say). I mean, really? We spen $510 per night plus the $40 for breakfast. Places that care about their guests would do better with breakfast. They'd also put coffee makers in the hotel room, as someone else mentioned. This is our second time at this hotel. There is a lot to like. It's fun to stay in the Stockade district and they have done a nice job with the renovations. But come on .... so simple to add the extra bits of hospitality to make it worth the money. Next time we will find an airbnb.

"worst representation of Kingston ever"

2.0

Well where do i start lets start at the beginning! My husband and i stayed here while visiting our family in Kingston which by the way was stunning! However the same cannot be said for the hotel. This hotel in its day i would say was lovely however not anymore. When we checked in we were advised there was no lift and we had to haul our 23kg suitcases up 3 flights of very steep stairs. When entering the room it was clean and tidy but did not reflect the price of £1700 for 4 days !!!! The next morning we went to breakfast to find no staff in the breakfast area to explain how breakfast was managed only to find two ladies hiding in the dark below the stairs drinking coffee and having a good jolly to themselves, also this restaurant is stinking no other word for it if it had been in the uk it would have been closed down for health reasons. This hotel is clearly lacking in management and whoever is the manager should be ashamed that they have let the standards drop to a basic level of a Motel. The only good thing about this hotel was the young man in reception who done everything he could to make us comfortable. Also in the name of jesus please remove the filfthy carpet in the halls its meant to be red NOT BLACK disgusting. Would i stay here again only if they knocked it down and rebuilt it Terrible place

No elevator, walked up 3 flights of steps with luggage. Room was clean. No frills. Good breakfast. Front desk was fine, no frills gives the keys that’s it. Can hear all the guests. I would say price does not match the room.

great location, interesting rooms, great bathroom. Much better than those cookie cutter chain hotel experiences. We had cycled to the location and staff were very helpful making a secure location to store bikes.

The hotel rooms are beautiful however I stayed at the Pearl Street location and found it to be extremely loud. The common room was next-door to my room so I could hear rowdiness, even a dog barking endlessly. Footsteps above me, TV next-door to me. Soundproofing is bad. I called to complain, and was offered a room on the third floor, which was difficult with a heavy suitcase and no help or elevator in the building. Also, I was surprised by how the bathrooms are outfitted. You go to the trouble of having Frette robes, but no hairdryer or things like cotton pads, earbuds, etc
