Twenty mins from the airport if the traffic is behaving, and centrally located for ease of walking to all the major tourist spots North or South of Douro. The Torel is a marvellous hotel, that delivers on all levels. The staff are it's foundation; endlessly friendly, professional and effortlessly helpful. From reception to the restaurant and housekeeping, there's always a smile and to see if you need anything. The check in experience is delightful, with a coffee and a walk through of all the ideas, places, and days out to experience in Porto. Breakfast is a wealth of choice, and a relaxing and welcoming start to the day. Our room was high up, and clean, modern, and a supremely comfortable bed. We stayed during the FC Porto party, and despite the fireworks and music, still managed a great night's sleep. I'm not sure we've stayed in a hotel with such friendly, attentive and charming staff. Everything was perfect ´

Hotel staff at the front desk, restaurant and lobby were friendly, professional, and accommodating. Location was terrific, centrally located but on a quieter street, which was perfect. The 2-bedroom suite was very clean and spacious. Breakfast selection was decent with a mix of à la carte made to order and a buffet, which ended at 11:00. The suites were located across the street of the main hotel and were newly built, about 5 months old.

For over €800/night I was expecting more luxury that’s on par with the a true 5 star hotel. The mattress and bedding were average, would be better if they had a mattress topper for more comfort. Better sound proofing is required as you can hear conversations in the corridor and hallway. We were woken up by young kids in the unit above jumping and running around from 7:30-09:00 which was extremely annoying as it sounded like a stampede. My husband had to call the hotel reception to complain twice over the loud noise. Swimming pool was a joke and extremely narrow and small, felt more like a dipping pool. Breakfast was great on day 1 but was inconsistent thereafter, as we were served cold and dry pancakes one day, and overcooked scrambled eggs another day. Housekeeping staff also failed to give us enough large bath towels for consecutive days despite us bringing this to the hotel staff’s attention after the first mishap; they knew we were a family of four but we were given two large bath towels only every day.

Excellent hotel in central location. Beautiful building with unique literary displays and lovely bedrooms. All staff are friendly, helpful and welcoming.
