"Beautiful apartment at an excellent location"

10.0

This apartment is located on Canongate and the Panmure Close. You can't beat the location for the reasons below: 1. Adam Smith lived next door (now a fully renovated business school named after him) during his last years. He was buried next door in the Canongate Kirk. Like capitalism or not, he was an intellectual giant and we paid a visit to his burial place. 2. Aside from Adam Smith, the Canongate Kirk graveyard itself is beautiful and worth a visit. I saw many local residents walking their dogs there. 3. Between the Canongate Kirk and the apartment lies the Dunbar's Close Garden, which was carefully designed to showcase historical gardening. It is free to visit. 4. There are two nice little restaurants within 50 meters of the apartment: Clarinda's Tearoom and Oink Canongate. 5. The apartment is 5-minute walk away from the Holyrood Palace and the Scottish Parliament. In other words, it is relatively far away from the Edinburgh Castle, which I think is a plus because it is less noisy here. Unlike the Edinburgh Castle which requires a ticket, the Scottish Parliament is free to visit Monday-Saturday. There is a cafe inside so you can actually eat there if you don't want to wait for a table at the Clarinda's Tearoom or the Oink. 6. It's close to Arthur's Seat and the Salisbury Crags, which I highly recommend. I climbed twice. I want to write more, but running out of words limit, so I'll just say the apartment itself was perfect for my family of four (with two kids).

"Great! But some extra resources would be appreciated!"

8.0

Loved the location and the size of the house! Really nice and cozy.

We would appreciate having at least 2 towels per person (one small and one big one) as well a couple of extra blankets because on our last night we got a bit late. Having more shampoo bottles would be nice as well, sharing 2 small bottles for 4 people was a bit tricky..

"Disappointing"

4.0

- Good location, near famous attractions - Good communication from the hosts before check in

- My parents stayed here for a long weekend getaway. Having never visited Edinburgh before, it would have been nice had there been a visitor guide/welcome pack with tips on where the local amenities are (note: there may have been one in the apartment, but my parents didn't find it in the 4 days that they were here so it wasn't easily accessible if so). - The process to get into the apartment was an ordeal in itself as there are numerous lock boxes involved and a triple lock. Not super easy to use. - There was no tea/coffee at the apartment. Whilst I appreciate this wasn't on the listing, I have never visited anywhere where this isn't provided and I have travelled all over the world. - The apartment was not clean by any stretch of the imagination. There was a sticky residue on the floor in the kitchen. White socks turned black within a matter of minutes. Shower was not clean - soap scum and hairs everywhere. The drain was slow to remove water from the shower so potentially needs a deep clean down the drain. - No clear info on how to access Wifi. - Sofa cushion covers were filthy. It looked like someone had been sick on the cushion and instead of cleaning it properly, the cushion had just been flipped. Disgusting. - Upon leaving the apartment, my mum stripped off the bedding to make it easier for the cleaner to come in and change the sheets and the duvet insert was grim and needed replacing immediately. - Spent around £500 for the stay and it was a complete rip off for the price paid.

"Does not look like pictures. Very plain but it is on the Royal Mile. If you are just looking for a place to sleep it is"

On the Royal Mile!

Hard to get in and out of with so many keys and locks! Heat would turn down at night so you were freezing! Dirty towels were left under the bed in twin room and it smelled of vomit.

"Great location and comfortable."

10.0

The location was very good. The area was very quiet, away from the hubub of the Royal Mile. There was a file of information in the flat which was really helpful.
