The Capitol Hotel Sydney

Check-in was fantastic. and working part of the EVT Group, it was a blessing to experience the hotel from a guest’s perspective. We stayed over the long weekend and attended The Lion King, is a must watch and which was conveniently located right next door. The hotel was stylish, comfortable, and full of character, with plenty of little hidden gems that made the stay even more enjoyable. Overall, it was a great experience and I would happily stay again.

Stayed overnight while watching The Lion King, and the hotel couldn’t have been more convenient—located right next door. We were in room 211, which was clean, spacious, and well-equipped with a fridge, coffee/tea amenities, and a stylish, functional layout. I especially liked the little desk nook—it made the space feel thoughtfully designed. There are plenty of restaurants and cafés right at your doorstep, which made everything super easy. Our package included breakfast; the dining area was clean and offered simple options like danishes, yoghurt, cereals, and breads with spreads—exactly what you need to start the day. Check-in was seamless with the online option, and security felt very solid throughout the stay, with keycard access required for entry. Great hotel overall—I’d definitely book again & staff at reception were very friendly and polite

I arrived late morning but was able to check in straight away which was much appreciated after an overnight flight. The location was excellent, room was clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

the check in process was so smooth. the front desk person, i believe her name is “lynn.” not too sure, but she is from argentina. absolutely professional. gave us helpful info about places to visit in sydney, and where to buy reasonably priced souvenirs. never too busy to help. all the other staff members, including the maintenance gentleman. not sure of his name, but i believe he is from india. always pleasant when we saw him. also the cleaning ladies. such a joy. hotel is located in the haymarket district. i believe they called it thai town due to all the thai restaurants, along with other asian specialties. hotel is steps aways from the tram, and a mall is about a 15 minute walk. uber is super reasonable for the u.s dollar. hotel room was just the right size for my partner and i. only issues which are not a big deal, i wish the windows opened, and more tv stations. otherwise our visit was great thanks to the exceptional hotel staff, especially “lynn.” we will definitely return. very happy here.

What I liked – Location: Great for me, close to transport, restaurants of all breeds, theatre & shops of all kinds. Staff: First class – caring and attentive. Parking: Literally next door and reasonably priced (for Sydney). Facility: Modern, spotlessly clean. What I didn’t – The room was large enough but claustrophobic. Windows sealed shut with perspex; ventilation was via a panel-controlled ducted system which I couldn’t get right. Only one lift. Bed too soft. Couldn’t get any news from the TV but enjoyed bingeing Law & Order anyway. For a 2-night stay, I received 11 text messages – Millennials eh, what can you do?

Our stay at this hotel was absolutely unacceptable. We were treated with hostility and forced to leave in the middle of the night without any valid reason. The way management handled the situation was aggressive, unprofessional, and left our group feeling unsafe. One of our elderly companions was deeply traumatized by the ordeal, and the lack of care or compassion shown was shocking. This was not just poor service—it was a disturbing experience that no guest should ever have to go through. I would strongly advise others to avoid this hotel if they value safety, respect, and basic human decency.

We felt that our family was treated with prejudice, particularly toward Asian guests, and with a troubling lack of respect for women, children, and elderly people. The emotional harm caused to my child and my mother is something that cannot be ignored. I expect the hotel to take responsibility by refunding the full booking amount and covering the unexpected expenses we were forced to incur, including transportation and accommodation elsewhere.

Great location, easy access to Central Station and the light rail. Right next door to The Capitol Theatre and Chinatown so heaps of dining options. Only issue with the room was the sagging bed and large pillows. Room was quiet though

Very good hotel in great location in Sydney's theatreland. Just a stone's throw from a tram stop and within walking distance (for us anyway) of the opera house and harbour bridge. Room was modern, clean and well maintained. Buffet breakfast was adequate, with a fair range of food - and you even got a a cup of speciality coffee made personally for you. Breakfast was in part of reception area and while it was not busy during our stay it may get crowded during busy periods. Both breakfast and reception staff were very attentive, And if you did not need housekeeping any particular day there is a 10$ credit to your bill.

This hotel checked all boxes. It was clean, comfortable and in a great area for our two night stay. We had a basic room - good bed and shower. Breakfast was exactly what we needed to start our day. Room was cleaned daily but you had the option to bypass room cleaning and get a credit to spend at the hotel. Nice idea. All staff were friendly and helpful. It is close to Central Station as well as the light rail and we made good use of both. Area was safe - you need a key card to get into the hotel and then onto your floor. Again checked all boxes.
