"Qaint Hotel, Great Hospitality"

10.0

My husband and I stayed here for two nights at the end of our week-long hiking trip through the area. All the staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful and the food was delicious and (too) abundant! We stayed on a half room and board basis, and greatly enjoyed the meals that were offered to us. We intended to hike ourselves skinny, but that definitely did not happen! Thank-you to owners Wendy, her son Alejandro, and his wife Csilla (and the rest of the staff) for making our stay so enjoyable ...and fun.

"Wonderful customer service"

10.0

Just returned from a wonderful group walking holiday in the Sierra Nevada mountains, based at this hotel. We experienced Spring unfolding as our week progressed - the temperatures rising, the leaves and flowers emerging, the warmth of the sun! The walks were varied - 3 ascending from the village, in cool fresh air, following irrigation channels and gorges and one to the snowline, whilst 2 descended to explore the local villages and cultivated slopes with blossoming almond groves, olive trees and vineyards. We saw wild ibex in the remote Berchules valley. We walked through herby scrub with the intoxicating scent of sage, thyme, rosemary and lavender wafting up as you brushed through it. We viewed the snowcapped peaks and Mulhacen. But back to the hotel. This is a lovely mountain retreat! The staff at the hotel were exceptional - Wendy, Alejandro, Csila, Omar - so friendly and good service. Rooms cleaned immaculately daily, and the evening meals were lovely - hearty and tasty. Amazing breakfast buffet - no stale rolls here! Chat with Wendy and you will catch her enthusiasm for this area - she is the lychpin - so classy to meet us to chat at breakfast and at the end of our walks, with genuine interest to hear of our adventures each day. I think the Sierra Nevada doesn't offer up its secrets easily. It doesn't shout at you with spiky peaks and chocolate box chalets. But it draws you in subtly if you stop and breathe. Go visit, and stay at Hotel los Berchules in the heart of the Sierra Nevada!

"Wonderful hospitality in a gorgeous setting"

10.0

We spent a week here, hiking most days, reading by the pool or the fire, starting every day with a good breakfast and finishing the day with a fine dinner (different every night) cooked by Alejandro. He and his mother Wendy and wife Sheila are great hosts, anticipating every need and maintaining a lovely informal atmosphere.

"Wonderful reception in a stunning location"

10.0

This isn't a 5 star establishment BUT it IS a lovely, friendly, family-run hotel on the edge of the village of Berchules, close to the Sierra Nevada mountains. The hotel is spotlessly clean and the rooms very comfortable, providing everything that we wanted for our walking trip. There are some stunning views down the vally, especially early in the morning, as the sun is rising. The people who run the hotel were all wonderfully friendly and helpful, they couldn't do enough to help. The food was appetising and plentiful, making use of local produce and helping to do its bit for the environment. We had packed lunches on the days we walked and I can't think of any I have had that have been better. This might sound a bit strange in a hotel review but, if you have an interest in aviation history, ask Wendy about the RAF Association plaque in the bar and then sit back and listen and then ask some questions! I really hope I get the opportunity to return to this hotel.

"Lovely place to stay"

10.0

So enjoyed our stay here. It was the last place we stayed on a 6 day walking trip, and the family really helpful and friendly. The food we had for dinner and breakfast was wonderful and far higher standard than 2 star. They have been really flexible with us hanging around as the bus back to Granada doesn’t go till 5!
