Fairlawn Estate

Breakfast was not available, however there was a microwave, coffee machine, toaster and kettle there to make what we needed.

Nothing, it was everything and more than we could have wanted.

The location is perfect, a great place to stay

Everything, so many little details thought of to enhance our stay.

The outdoor seating area was a bit small for 10 people, however more than ample seats inside.

This place is so clean and the beds are soooo comfy! Three separate sitting areas including a beautiful sun room looking onto a small orchard with rabbits and birds very active at sunrise.

The bathroom was outside of our cottage, in open air a few meters, then into a back room of the main house. We were the only guests permitted in this area, but it was a walk and in pitch black. Would have a problem in Winter cold and rain. Also glass doors throughout so it was filled with light from 5am. Bring a plug in mozzie repellent - killed over a dozen mozzies in the house on night 1 and then the diffuser did its job. Back door was stuck, so getting in and out needed muscle and a rattle.

Magnificent home in a lovely setting. Bedrooms were spacious and comfortable for everyone. The kitchen was well equipped as we cooked meals there for seven people.

Such a big house, it was a long walk to our room.

I had wanted to visit Fairlawn since I read about Georgiana Molloy's contribution to herbarium collections at Kew Gardens and the Cambridge Botanic Gardens (as I recently completed the RHS Level II horticultural qualification in the UK). I grew up in WA and had never heard of Georgiana Molloy growing up here! What I loved about staying at Fairlawn was how incredibly peaceful it was, as well as the beauty of its setting on the banks of the river Vasse. It was sheer joy to wake up to the sounds of birds, the smell of the vegetation, to see the sun on the trees and know that you were staying in a beautiful historic house.We stayed in the King Suite and the inclusion of a little kitchenette was really handy. We also loved waking up and seeing ducks and ducklings, rabbits, blue wrens and all manner of other (benign!) wildlife. The location is just a short drive away from Busselton city centre and we felt it was the perfect place to stay - it was a so delightful to return to the peacefulness of Fairlawn.

It was pretty much faultless. Using dried native flowers as displays in the rooms might have been a nice touch - as a sort of homage to Mrs Molloy (but that's because I love my WA flora!).
