AC Hotel by Marriott Portsmouth

Everyone was so nice at the hotel..We really enjoyed our stay.

Pleasantly surprised by the aesthetics, although I wouldn’t consider this “an authentic European style” hotel as Marriott describes it. I appreciated the frosted glass bathroom door, the double shower heads, lots of hooks, decent water pressure, no sounds from other rooms, good proximity to downtown, and the informative and friendly valets. The thing I can’t agree with is the cleanliness. The rug had what looks like ketchup stains and there was more long hair in the bathroom than on my head! Disappointing. Housekeeping came daily. Our room overlooked a condo construction site and they began work at 7am. Luckily I wear ear buds, but the hubby doesn’t. If the price is right we’d stay again. Tip: park at the Foundry garage only a five minute walk and $20/day, ac charges $45! We did NOT receive a $25 destination fee as others mentioned.

PROS- beautiful hotel, great location, dinner ordered "to go" our first night from their restaurant was very good. Sadly however, we had garlic permeating our room for two nights as housekeeping simply never showed up to take our trash, make our bed or provide us with fresh towels. I know, it sounds snooty, but when you pay THIS much..AND have this odd destination fee added (that you can use towards purchases at the hotel but was never explained to us at check-in) you don't expect to come back after a long day of sightseeing to a room that smells like the Olive Garden with damp towels still hanging in the bathroom. On our way out the door to dinner that second night, we explained the situation to the woman front desk. No apology, no explanation..but when we got back a few hours later, someone had brought up a stack of towels and plopped them on the unmade bed in our still garlic smelling room. So yeah, property itself gets an A, staff not so much.

Room was nice and spotless. All of the staff we encountered were friendly and professional.

We paid extra for a harbor view room. We got to look at a construction site. It was not at all what is shown for the habit view suite on their website. When I let them know all they said was I’m sorry the room is not up to your expectations, if there’s anything I can do to help please let me know. There was no offer to reimburse us the difference for a regular view room. Parking they said was 45 daily but it’s also another 40 overnight. We were there for two days and paid $170 even though we checked in at 3:15. They still charged us for a full day. Breakfast was not worth the charge. The staff were friendly and the valet attendants were great.

Business Overnight Trip accompanied by Wife and she enjoyed the Hotel and surrounding areas.
