La Loma Jungle Lodge and Chocolate Farm

I loved everything about staying here. The property is so unique and it was an unforgettable experience. I’m writing this review on the last morning of my stay, sitting in my hammock looking out at the jungle, drinking the cacao tea brought to my room this morning, hoping I’ll catch one last view of the mama and baby sloth we spotted on our farm tour yesterday. The food has been outstanding, I looked forward to every meal, and when we did our day trip to Zapatilla islands (a must do - snorkeling, starfish, and dolphins on the way there, then the most pristine beach at these small national park islands), they packed lunch for us to bring. The rooms are so comfortable (obviously there are some bugs, but the netting around the bed works great and there’s ample bug spray and a fan above the bed) and it felt like a little paradise

It was perfect - anything some other reviewers might consider negative (the trek up to the lodge, bugs, etc) are all part of such a special nature experience. I had looked at waterfront or properties with a pool, and I’m so glad I chose this instead because I’ve never stayed anywhere like it, and it was so easy to take little boat trips to the best beaches!

This place was absolutely amazing. My husband and I love finding unique spots that aren’t the norm, and La Loma definitely fit the bill. From the lodging to the food and drinks, every detail reflected thoughtful design and genuine care for sustainability... even the trash bins were lined with banana leaves instead of plastic! The food and drinks were masterfully crafted, both delicious and beautifully presented. The views were stunning, and we even spotted some incredible wildlife right from the restaurant. A sloth graciously posed for a little photo shoot while we ate! My husband has some lung issues, so we took a couple of breaks during the short hike to the lodge when we arrived, but it was absolutely worth it. The staff took care of our luggage from the boat, which made things much easier. Aaron greeted us when we arrived and made sure we had everything we needed, and Rogelio was just as attentive throughout our stay. The whole team truly went above and beyond. We’ll definitely stay here again on our next visit to Bocas!

The property was a beautiful, authentic jungle oasis with a very friendly staff and excellent farm to table food. The Family treehouse was perfect for our friend group of 4. The activities were engaging and fun from the plantation tour to the bat cave and exploring beaches. And we had great yoga sessions every morning.

EXTRAORDINARIO!!! Una experiencia única!!! Difícil de resumir! Fui con mi familia: mis dos hijas de 8 y 10 años y sus abuelos de 70 años. Para mis hijas fue increíble (si tuvieran que escoger entre viajar a Disney o a las Lomas me dijeron que no sabrían que elegir!) La comida un lujo! De primera calidad: nunca alcancé a tener hambre entre comidas y el nivel es totalmente Gourmet, de primer nivel!!! Las cabañas son impecables y el sonido de la selva al dormir es increíble. Con mis papás teníamos aprehensión por las escaleras, pero la verdad es que con paciencia no tuvieron ningún problema, sin duda, el esfuerzo es altamente recompensado. Está todo muy bien pensado. Las personas que trabajan ahí son una verdadera familia. Hicimos varios tours. Para llegar a la playa Red Frogs son solo 5 minutos en bote. Si estás pensando en ir no lo dudes más! Estuvimos 6 días y alcanzamos a disfrutar el lugar y realmente conectarnos con la naturaleza. Imposible aburrirse…

I could easily write a three-page review about our experience at La Loma, but I’ll keep it short: what an unforgettable stay! Three days of pure bliss – we even tried to extend our time there. We travel a lot and stay in many wonderful hotels around the world, but this experience truly stood out. The open-air bungalow was simply magical, and every morning we woke up to a warm cup of freshly brewed cacao tea delivered to our room — such a thoughtful touch. The food, mostly sourced from their own garden, was exceptional. The jungle baths, the laid-back luxury, the little attentions, the treatments — everything was perfect. We joined almost all the activities, and each one was a delight. It was an experience we’ll never forget. Thank you again for making our stay so remarkable and thank you Aaron!

Ein traumhafter Ort mit wunderschöner Aussicht. Ja, es ist anstrengend nach oben zu gelangen, aber man wird mit wahnsinnig schönem Blick belohnt. Zimmer: Wer nicht zu oft die vielen Treppen steigen möchte, soll eines der zwei King-Zimmer nehmen. Am schwierigsten sind, glaube ich, die Cacao-Farm-Zimmer, da sie ganz unten liegen und man dreimal hochsteigen muss zum Essen. Die Koffer werden nach oben gebracht, da muss man sich keine Gedanken machen. Der Ventilator im Zimmer hat gute Leistung, sodass man sich darunter angenehm gefühlt hat (es ist sehr feucht im Dschungel :-)). Das Moskitonetz ist sehr hochwertig und gibt ein gutes Gefühl trotz fehlender Wände. Essen: Alles hat sehr, sehr lecker geschmeckt und die Portionen waren vollkommen ausreichend. Personal: Alle sind aufmerksam, freundlich und hilfsbereit. Wir haben uns willkommen und aufgehoben gefühlt. Ich habe den Aufenthalt hier geliebt. Einige Tiere gesehen wie Faultiere, Kolibris, Vögel, Insekten und bei Nachtwanderung sogar Gürteltier. Ich genoss es einfach, zu entspannen und dem Dschungel-Sound zu lauschen. Es war einfach ein Traum, hier zu sein.

Es gibt nicht was anderes sein sollte.

Staying at La Loma Lodge was nothing short of magical. The lodge is beautifully tucked away in the rainforest, surrounded by vibrant wildlife and the serene sounds of nature. The accommodation was stunning — open-air, thoughtfully designed, and deeply connected to the environment. Every detail feels intentional, from the comfortable beds to breathtaking views of the forest, to having privacy from other rooms, to having two hammocks, to toilet paper holders ;). It’s the perfect balance of charm and comfort. The food and drinks deserve their own spotlight. Most ingredients are grown right on the property (even the pepper on the table and hot sauce are so), and every meal (and also the non-alcoholic drinks) is fresh and absolutely delicious. Dining at La Loma is more than a meal — it’s an experience and you’ve even got the best view of the bay ever from the restaurant. But what truly makes La Loma exceptional is the people. The hosts and staff are welcoming, passionate, and incredibly knowledgeable about the wildlife and chocolate farm. Their care for sustainability and respect for the environment shines through in everything they do. From hiking through the cacao farm and learning about chocolate-making to trying different local fruits and spotting sloths right from the restaurant, every moment was unforgettable. If you’re looking for a place that’s more than just a stay — a place that connects you with nature and leaves you feeling inspired — La Loma Lodge is it. Without a doubt, one of the most remarkable travel experiences we’ve ever had. Make sure you stay a bit longer than we did, one night was definitely not enough.
