"Loud impatient housekeepers"

8.0

I exclusively stay at Courtyard because most (not all) have a no pets policy. I was happy to have not seen or heard one yappy smelly dog during my stay. Hotel was easy to access from the 101 loop. Immediately learned you have to pay for parking $10 per day using a phone app. There is no other way to pay this fee. There was ample parking when I stayed so I don't see why they are charging this fee other than pure greed. Make sure you don't overpay! The clock starts from the time you pay with the app. If you are staying two nights, I recommend you pay for one day then add time later rather than accidentally adding too much time. Christina at the front desk was really nice. The hotel is set up kind of weird. No exterior side doors at the front. Only in the back where there’s not much parking. The internet was extremely slow. Maybe it was the location of my room. Ordering food online was nerve wracking with the bad signal. I had to go into the hall to get internet on my phone. I did not use the pool or exercise room. I did try to walk around the neighborhood but there is no access to the CAP canal to the south (which seems like a great place for a pedestrian/bike path). The surrounding complexes are all gated. I did walk north up to Princess and went west and found that neighborhood to be quite walkable. My room was on the 2nd floor. Not much of a view. Basically overlooked a roof and had a bright light mounted right outside. Room was small which is fine as I didn't need much. Nice large desk that had plenty of room for my laptop to work. TV was large with a number of channels. Adjustable thermostat. No tub, just a shower. They provide large bottles of shampoo, conditioner and body wash inside the shower. The water pressure was AMAZING and the shower head was adjustable. One of the best showers I've ever had. Plenty of hot water. The room had the standard mini fridge, but no freezer section to store ice packs if you're going to be using a cooler for a day trip. Also no microwave so don't count on reheating food or bringing microwave meals to the room. They do have a pantry section in the lobby with a microwave there, but who wants to go all the way to the lobby to heat up food? There is a Black Bear Diner next door which was really good and convenient. I'm very glad I remembered to bring my white noise machine as the doors to the rooms slam very loudly. With the machine I did not wake up once during the night. I did not hear anyone stomping around upstairs, but I don't know if that room simply was vacant. My main issue was that the housekeepers were unprofessional and unnecessarily loud. They really need to be trained better. Not just them yelling to one another and playing loud music in the hallway, but it is not ok to loudly hang out in the hallway staring down guests to get them to leave. People who are there for work don't need that distraction during the day. Unlike other guests, I did not notice any issues with the cleanliness of my room. Just had a problem with the behavior of the housekeepers. I requested a late checkout of 2PM which I normally don't do but the front desk said it would be fine. I returned to my room at 1:30PM to change and pack up my stuff. The housekeeper's cart was parked right outside my door. I get it. I used to be a housekeeper. I likely was her last room and she wanted to go home. But I NEVER harassed a guest to try and leave early and never knew any of my coworkers to ever do such a thing. Another housekeeper was parked at the other end of the hall like a lookout. She must have alerted my housekeeper because next thing I know she's banging on my door! Unbelievable. The Do Not Disturb sign was on the door! She then proceeded to stand outside of my door waiting for me to leave blasting Mexican music on her phone. I took a couple things out to the car. The do not disturb sign was mysteriously gone. So I guess removing it makes it ok for her to knock on the door and rush me out of there? Nope. Normally I would take all my stuff at once, but I noticed that another annoying thing the housekeepers do here is leave their carts in the middle of the hallway. Can barely get past them and definitely can't carry a bunch of stuff past the carts. I normally tip my housekeepers very well, but when I came back for my suitcase I left a quarter of what I initially was going to leave her. I will be back, but next time likely will tape a sign in Spanish on my door saying not to bother me.

"Maybe look else were, you get what you paid for. "

6.0

The room was nice but awkward. The windows offered no sound proofing at all you could hear everything happening at the pool especially in the evenings as it cooled off. Kids were at the pool swimming until after 11pm. The front door also didn't offer an sound proofing, you can hear full conversations happening in the hallway as people passed by. Our sink/vanity area, the towel holder was about to fall off the wall (the drywall was coming off around the attempted repair). The TV was oddly half shaded (like someone had maybe punched it or it had fallen) the top half of the TV was dark and the bottom was bright. Weird right!

"The last straw? "Boogers" on the glass!!!"

2.0

Over the past 12+ years we have stayed at this Courtyard many times. It was our "go-to" place to stay in Scottsdale. When I needed to see specialists at the Mayo Clinic, we chose this hotel. Sadly, the hotel has deteriorated to the point that we will never stay here again. We arrived a day early and checked in. Despite telling hotel staff and the shift managers of non-functioning phones several times, this was never fixed our entire stay. The sheets and comforter were dirty with some type of fluid stain on two occasions. In fact, once, we had to get our own sheets and change the bedding ourselves. Two clusters of black bugs were noted on the ceiling, grout in the shower mildewed; but the last straw was an apparent smear of mucus (i.e., "boogers") on a wall painting. We checked out the following day and transferred to another hotel. The hotel manager seemed rather disinterested, offered no apologies, and didn't even arrange for housekeeping to clean off the "boogers" that night. We did get one nights "comp" but only after we insisted. I am very, very disappointed in Marriott. They should be ashamed to have this hotel in such a sorry state.
