The Swan Hotel

This is a beautiful hotel located in Lavenham, rich in history and beautifully designed. The staff are very attentive and the attention to detail is real. The food reflects great classics, innovation and is served in beautiful dining areas. The hotel rooms vary in design and upkeep and can, depending on capability, be difficult to get to with limited mobility.

Superb lunch. Lovely setting. Dinning room very well presented and comfortable. Opted for 3 course 'Luxe Lunch', very good value. Food was excellent and very well presented. Service was first class, Sally and Tamsin friendly and efficient. All the staff lovely and very helpful.

Booked 3 nights at The Swan with our 2 dogs. Our room was ok luckily it had air conditioning (only room with it apparently) bearing mind heatwave. Being so hot affected our plans as we couldn’t get dogs out at all in daytime as just too hot. 1st night ate at hotel food was nice and service ok. Breakfast was again nice but one of staff was rude and clearly didn’t like us having our dogs with us. We had arranged to eat at hotel that night appreciate hotel had issues with gas but waited to be served at our arranged time nobody came so we left. Thank god for coop across road as we could at least buy a sandwich for our meal. We decided to leave day early because there seemed little point staying to spend 90% of day in room with no guarantee we could eat that night at hotel. Having checked out day early room had been previously paid for I settled food/drinks bill given 10% off as apology and receptionist did say staff night before may have been preoccupied with a wedding that was happening. Hotel now realised not charged for dogs so charged us £124 for pleasure by my reckoning 3nights at £40 is £120 so what £4 charge is for I don’t know & to be honest don’t care. Our experience was beyond disappointing & we won’t be returning saying that we had another booking in December which we are now cancelling. Dog friendly they think they are but aren’t. Some of staff just plain rude. Appreciate our choice to check out day early but then charge £40 for dogs staying when they didn’t. A nice gesture would have been to have waived that but not the swan. Fact wedding happened Friday should not have affected the treatment for guests or anyone visiting your hotel. Our experience this stay has resulted in us cancelling another booking and future trade from us as we are relatively local to The Swan.

I recently visited the Swan for the first time for some drinks and Marc who served me was so lovely and pleasant. He was very welcoming and helped me choose what to drink while also teaching me about the history of the Swan. I will definitely be back soon.

Beautiful hotel in the stunning village of Lavenham. Our trip did not reflect the high prices of the venue and standards were poor. The bar is often left unmanned and the bar staff are rude with body odour issues. The standards of cleaning in the bar are poor with sticky bar tops and the smell of stale ale in the air. The garden is lovely but again staffing levels are poor. You must return inside to place an order and tables are often left unclear. Dinner service is like a game of roulette, dependant on the server your experience will differ whilst the food is often good. The spa is reasonable but small with the pool often out of service. All in all there are better options available for the money spent.

First impressions on arrival, there was dirty carpet, and stained seats. Table laid with mismatched crockery, I asked for a china cup rather than steellite and was told none available, advised waitress to clear the several tables surrounding us which were full of used crockery, and to wash them and we would wait, reply was will take time, implying didn’t want to, I said no we will wait! It was like a stand off! I emailed the contact us page on website at that moment, days later still no response! Shocking experience. All sandwiches were white bread no consideration for choice!

Afternoon-tea for 36 pensioners made really special by Sally, Sorin, and Lukasz. They made the whole experience absolutely brilliant. Great team of people. Thank you so much. we will be back. We enjoyed a beautiful afternoon tea today with attentive service from Sorin and delicious fare thanks to Chef Phoebe. We particularly enjoyed the chocolate fudge cake. Thank you for a very pleasant afternoon. The Swan is one of our fave spots so we'll definitely be back!

Lovely quirky hotel, food lovely, staff very friendly. Only issue we had was breakfast service, we asked for toast with breakfast but it never came, when we asked for it we got white even though we asked for granary. We were asked if we wanted one or two sausages, asked for two but only got one. Asked for a second coffee but it never came so we had to ask again but had no cups so had to grab someone to ask for them. I believe there wasn’t enough staff on at 9 as by about 9.45 there seemed to be alot more staff. Would definitely stay again.

Amazing afternoon tea, best GF Dairy free scone and cakes EVER!! Thankyou Sorin for brilliant service and Becky for the scones 😀 would definitely come back, comfy chairs and nice atmosphere. Also as it was our birthday there was an extra treat 😋
