Macdonald Leeming House

Place is in need of refurbishment. Rotted wooden frames on the outside. Carpets on stairs showing signs of wear. Pillows horrendous in terms of comfort. Both of us got very little sleep. WiFi not working. Staff very friendly and food expensive unless you are on a deal but quality very nice. I think the room description is a little overstated. We were in a deluxe room but it was no better than a standard room where I've stayed elsewhere. Furniture looked tired.

We went as a large family for a special birthday celebration. The first thing to say is that the staff were absolutely. Unfailingly courteous and so friendly! They made every interaction, whether dinner or breakfast a real joy. Hotel set in stunning surroundings and rooms clean and comfy.

Checked in here after leaving a sister hotel 2 days early due to very underwhelming service. Hotel is lovely and a very nice break away in a rural setting. Only negative was that the hotel advertises access to a nearby indoor pool. I asked about this at reception to be told the hotel did not have a pool. I was then told the ‘nearby’ pool was at the sister hotel in Windermere (a 35-40 minute drive away!). This was also the hotel I had checked out of early the previous day. How this can be classed as nearby I do not know. Otherwise as above if you’re looking for a quiet get away this place is perfect (limited phone signal but that is sometimes a good thing!). Sadly though I can’t see me staying at a Macdonald hotel again.

Amazing breakfast , friendly staff , good size rooms.. Located in middle of nowhere but great access for all walks. Well priced drinks and food. . Blue room dinning just for people with dogs and probably the nicer restaurant. Dog friendly, Tracy on bar works very had and great conversationalist .. Made to feel very comfortable..

The rooms were very cosy and had a homely feel, the bed was very big and very comfy. The view behind the hotel was breathtaking! I have never stayed in a hotel with such an amazing view. The picture is of the view. The staff were all lovely and helpful. I would recommend this hotel who wants a peaceful stay.

Little outdated, drinks and dinner menu is pretty expensive and doesn’t offer a lot They say breakfast is included but charge for a latte or cappuccino as it’s their premium coffee Staff is nice helpful and polite

We have stayed at leeming house several times over the years and have many happy memories there. Unfortunately our recent trip after a gap of a couple of years was disappointing. Although the staff were helpful and the bedroom was nice, the rest of the hotel including the bar, sitting rooms and dining room were uncomfortably cold. Dinner was tasty but very expensive, as were the wine list and bar drinks.

Tired room and expensive food offerings. The front-of-house staff are well trained and trying their best despite a clear lack of hotel investment. The hotel is in desperate need of renovation. The rooms are disappointing (see photos). We even suffered from being served in a cold dining room (the heating was not on), while our doggy friends (dog owners) managed to be served in a slightly smaller room with a wood fire to keep them toasty. When I commented to the staff that the dining room was cold, the response was, ‘It is a little.’ We then informed the main reception of our concerns regarding the cold dining room and dirty bedroom. All of this was noted to be passed on to Darren (Operations Manager), who I'm sure will discuss it with the team. The food was well presented and very tasty - however, the offerings were very expensive (all none vegetarian being over £30+) We booked this hotel as a treat, for £275 a night we expected more. We will not stay here again until significant changes are made.

Super comfy bed, lovely nights sleep after an early start to the day to get there. Hotel is a lovely traditional vibe. We had our evening meal in the blue room (no doubt due to out of season/quieter time) could benefit from more background noise, felt a bit like eating in a library. Nevertheless, the food was good, big portions too! Lovely grounds, although Macdonald could do with investing in maintenance, nice walk down to the lake. Staff were all very friendly and welcoming. Room was a bit too warm for us but we just turned the radiator down and opened the window a bit - no issues.
