Macdonald Leeming House

One of our favourite hotels, our third visit. Still a lovely spot and great building, staff do their best but the pricing is getting into blatant gouging (notably £6 supplements for breakfast options such as avocado on top of a £24 base orice) and the dinner menu is about 20% over what I think would be a market price for a good hotel. The fabric of the rooms is deteriorating. We were in Room 17 this time. The outside patio area is in a dreadful state the bathroom is ancient (but well cleaned) and the cupboard by the door had a faulty catch and was held closed with a bit of string. There are no power points on one side of the bed. At this price a minibar or empty fridge would be reasonable. Maybe a coffee machine? Reminds me that there is no espresso based coffee available at breakfast. All a bit sad but it says a lot that I would still go back. New wooden steps down to the lake shore were well done, a happy exception to the trend. I hope Macdonalds can bring Leeming House back to the state it deserves. Well done to the staff, great work. Macdonalds corporate management, a poor effort - not least your AI agent emails which are pretty dreadful. Only bothering to give this feedback because I still love this hotel.

Leeming House is a beautiful Hotel . We checked in on the early May Day holiday 2025 for four adults and 2dogs the two rooms were lovely . The breakfast and Dinner were very nice and served by friendly staff . The guy on reception couldn’t do enough for you he was lovely . We all can’t wait to return . Thank you for a lovely stay !

We have just arrived home from a lovely 2 night stay away at Leeming House Hotel. Where to start… it was the most perfect little stay! It was our first time at the hotel and I was visiting with my husband and our golden retriever Bailey, and we were celebrating my birthday. On arrival to our garden access room, there was a bottle of Prosecco in ice waiting for us with some slate that had ‘happy birthday’ written on it with some strawberries and a shortbread. A lovely little surprise. The room was clean and had everything you would need, including robes and slippers. It was clean and the bed was super comfortable. We had garden access from our room which was perfect with having a dog, however it would be good if you could lock your room from the outside of those doors if you was wanting to take your pet for a short walk around the grounds before bed, but it was no trouble. The breakfast was lovely, full continental with tea/coffee, plus hot breakfast to order if you’d like! Our retriever Bailey was treated to a sausage each morning which he absolutely loved. The staff are absolutely wonderful, everyone made us feel super welcome throughout our stay and the hotel is super dog friendly. All the staff remembered Baileys name and fussed him so much, he was a massive hit! The grounds have bunny rabbits that you see running around often and sheep that are in the field next door, so dogs on lead is a must. There is also access down to the lake which is lovely. On our final night, around 3am until 6am we had a power cut, normally would have gone unnoticed as you’d be asleep however my husband has cpap for sleeping overnight so it did wake us, but the staff were so apologetic in the morning (although not the hotels fault) and offered a later check out of 1/1.30pm for the inconvenience which was a lovely gesture. Overall, would stay here again and sad to have had to leave! Would highly recommend.

Beautiful property in a lovely area by the Lake. Bassel the receptionist was extremely helpful and attentive.

The location was perfect , the hotel was lovely , the views perfect , old world charm . The staff were excellent, . Had seen a few bad reviews- could not understand why they would have done those - no complaints at all . The food was great - portion size just perfect for us

Lovely old house, beautiful location and the staff are very nice and helpful. Second time here but probably wont be going back. Dog charges are £20 per night per dog, even if you don't have your room cleaned - we stayed for two nights and asked for the room to be left after the first night to save cleaning and be a bit more eco but were disappointed that we still got charged £40 for that night (£80 in total for two nights) for extra dog cleaning which didn't happen. We also had a 30th anniversary dinner in the restaurant but my wifes dinner was missing key ingredients, so they took it away to re-cook it but just left mine to get cold on the table, so we ended up eating separately for our special dinner - really spoilt the evening and with only a cursory apology to make up for it.

Lovely property. Friendly and helpful attentive staff. Spacious room. The breakfast was great with a variety of different foods. It’s on the lake, so you can walk down from the garden and see beautiful views.

Called in for lunch on a beautiful sunny day, sat outside on the terrace, the view is stunning. It was very quiet, we were the only ones there along with a couple of ladies who looked to be having a coffee. We had a sandwich and a drink, nothing special, sliced bread as you'd buy in a supermarket, very expensive ( you have to think you're paying for the view !) such a shame , we won't be going again. The lady who served us was very nice.

Very enjoyable

Rooms and en-suite spacious and well furnished,but all looking well worn and in need of renewal. En-suite, we thought the bath was difficult for showering, it was very narrow.
