Macdonald Leeming House

It is just a fantastic, relaxing venue that is a delight to stay in. The food was lovely and service was great all round.

We are regular visitors to the Ullswater area. This was a disappointing trip. The hotel is badly worn. Furniture in the room is scuffed chopped and leather worn away from chairs. Common areas such as bannisters have varnish rubbed off and steps in the gardens are broken and unsafe. Window sills are decaying. There was mold on the bath and on the bathroom ceiling. Breakfast options are extremely meagre for continental and almost every option for cooked carries a steep supplement and we waited a long time to order. Toast arrived cold. There was a drowned insect in the juice that was not removed. Lounges are too dark to sit and read in after sundown. Room was however spacious and clean though dingy in decor. ( no 31) Faded glory is the best way to describe this place. It needs a good refurb and injection of capital and love. Its location could make it superb if looked after.

Stayed for a weekend. The rooms are dirty, as are public areas. The building itself is delapidated and in an unkept state of repair with little or no maintenance, which is a shame, because I imagine many moons ago this would have been THE place to stay. We saw empty bottles and glasses left on radiators in hallways. Furniture in general is old and tatty. Authough the majority of the staff are nice and caring there are one or two who aren't. They are clearly understaffed and overworked, and it shows. One lady in the restaurant should never have been at work at all, and yet she seemed to be doing the majority of the work. She looked, and sounded extremely unwell, and should have tucked up in bed. We really felt sorry for her. We could see the hotel is running on minimal staff, but be reasonable!! The food is very nice, however severely overpriced. Why would you be charged extra money for avacasdo on toast for your breakfast when you have already paid for a full English, and buffet style which you are not partaking in? That made no sense to us at all. Drinks from the bar are also overpriced, but as the hotel is miles from anywhere they have a captive audience! Overall, for the price we paid I think it's not value for money at all. There are other hotels in the area that offer a much better standard and are the same price or in some cases cheaper. A very disappointing stay to be honest and we will definitely not be returning.

First things first: THERE IS NO POOL!! Indoor or outdoor (unless Ullswater itself is "the outdoor pool" Imagine The Shining with the cast of The Addams Family and you've got a pretty good idea of what it's like. The "nearby pool" quoted on the Expedia listing is 45 minutes drive away. At a ★★★★ hotel I expect (these days) a capsule coffee maker, but that aside, they did not turn the King Room into a twin bed until AFTER our arrival – despite multiple calls beforehand to flag this; there was only one robe for a 2 person occupancy, and when I asked for another, it was broken. The dinner was so overpriced (no kids options) we didn't bother, and only tried the breakfast once – £20 for a couple of stale croissants, sad-looking cold meat and cheese is NOT my idea of a ★★★★ hotel breakfast. (A cooked breakfast was available for £26/head). The electric vehicle chargers were fitted but not working. All that said, there's a great view... so maybe drop in for a £35pp afternoon tea? Assuming you like a cup of mushroom soup with your scone, French fancies, jammie dodgers and finger sandwiches.

Welcome to Fawlty towers.An experience never to forget! Hotel is dated,rooms not cleaned properly.Why pay extra supplement £6 for breakfast,cappacino £4.50 extra if you don't have their coffee.Only a few staff but nice and polite .Only great plus would be the views if your room has a balcony.Other than that sadly I won't be coming back Darren (the manager of Fawlty Towers).

We stayed at the Macdonald Leeming hotel. All in all it was a nice stay and we would come back but a few things could be better. The room was not clean. The bathroom toilet had hairs and other Matter when we arrived. Also, the carpeting needed a good vacuuming. The hotel is in an idyllic location with beautiful views. We had a lake view which is worth paying for. Staff was uneven. Some very nice , caring , and helpful. Others seemed to just like saying no or we can’t do it.. Restaurant was good and we had nice meals there.

Overall a very beautiful property and area with truly outstanding views and staff. Downside would be that the bathroom was in need of some maintenance, door was scuffed and needed repainting, shower and bath had areas of patchy sealant. Breakfast was amazing and very accommodating staff.

We love the hotel. Lovely hotel and food. The views of the lake is beautiful.

Can’t fault the location and scenery, it’s stunning and perfect base for exploring the Ullswater lake area. However, for the price paid I did expect more luxury in the way of attentiveness and cleanliness. The hotel grounds are lovely but the inside desperately needs modernising and refreshing. Nobody came to make our bed/refresh water and towels while out, waited ages for new towels to arrive at the room after being out walking all day. Just little touches like plug sockets next to the bed and adequate hanging space for clothes make all the difference. Unfortunately I wouldn’t stay here again.

Just spent an absolutely wonderful weekend at Leeming House for our friends wedding, the team here are absolute diamonds and made the whole weekend thoroughly enjoyable! These guys really cannot do enough for you and executed every single part of the wedding with extreme precision! The grounds and views are simply spectacular and I cannot recommend this place enough! Thank you all for a truly memorable weekend :)
