Macdonald Leeming House

Lovely weekend in a suite at Leeming House. The suite we stayed in had an amazing view and I’m guessing that’s what you pay for. The room was nice, decor fitting the period of the house. The carpet was stained in a number of places and the room didn’t look like it had been cleaned very well, dead spider on the window sill and hair in the bathroom. We ate at the restaurant in the evening and morning, the food was lovely we saw a lot of negative reviews but we couldn’t fault anything. Overall a lovely stay with a nice walk to the lake and close to Aira Force Waterfall.

We booked to stay here for our second night of our honeymoon and after a day of traveling we arrived fairly late. When we were getting ready for bed, the was red staining on the sheets, which appeared like blood, little fly's all on the celling and on the walls. I walked down to reception and the wasn't anyone there so I called and asked to changed rooms, we eventually was able to move rooms at 11.30pm. I brought this up to staff and it was being investigated but I have since emailed and tried to make contact to follow up and the has been no contact. I just wanted to ensure this wasn't the case for further guests as this left me feeling deeply upset and let us with a bad experience. The situation is unhygienic and not acceptable especially for a four star hotel.

Lovely bedroom, comfortable lounges, good restaurant, great views of Ullswater.

The view is the only redeeming factor for this hotel. Tired interiors and cracking wallpaper, combined with a tepid welcome from the staff. Food was clearly canned/freezer food for dinner. Sinks had cracks and carpet needs a good clean. Worth half the price. Ullswater overall is stunning though and the hotel is well located. If you’re there to hike and be out all day, the hotel is clean enough to sleep in.

The third week of July we spent a wonderful short week at the Leeming, never to be forgotten. However at a luxury establishment such as this, housekeeping should really pay a much closer attention to the cleanliness of bathrooms in particular. And I say bathrooms in plural because we have experienced two. We booked months ahead and yet after a long drive on arrival we were dismayed to be given a room upstairs/no lift despite of my mobility issues. We were dismayed but there was NONE other was offered on the ground floor. In addition the bathtub was dirty, the fixtures black mould around them, could not have been properly cleaned in a very long time. Amazingly the following day on complaining the wonderful Bassil on the desk found us a room on the ground floor at once. Yet the bathtub in this room was also not clean. The cleaner was called but only HALF of the tub got cleaned. (??) Also the bathroom floor 'obviously' was not seen to throughout the days we were there. We stopped complaining not wanting to ruin our stay with griping. So housekeeping please supervise, supervise! Having said this, our special thanks goes to Bassil, he could not have done enough trying to smooth out issues. What a marvellous asset you have there in him! Breakfast service is exceptional and here our special thanks goes to the lovely Monika helping us. As for dinner, the menu needs attention to be payed to those of us who do not eat meat. The only fish dish comes wrapped in bacon, (why?) as to vegetarian offerings apart from pasta there was the goat cheese risotto. This came with a thick slice of goat cheese surrounded by a hint, really just a hint of beetroot risotto around. True, on request we were served with an extra plate of risotto, all the same we preferred to go elsewhere to dine from then on. Shame, as the comfortable dining room is beautifully situated. There are comfortable sitting rooms with a great view of the lake to have coffee or drinks, even a limited buffet menu is available. So yes we would recommend the establishment to carnivore friends, advising to check the bathroom before settling in.

Excellent accommodation with lots of friendly staff. Having read some previous reviews we were a bit sceptical having booked Leeming House. Albeit for one night we had a lovely break. Swam in the lake from the hotel garden and enjoyed a good evening meal and breakfast. We were on a dinner bed and breakfast package which was excellent value for money. Will definitely return in the future.

Lovely hotel in beautiful position but is sadly lacking a a quality refurbishment. How an avocado on toast can warrant a £6.00 surcharge over a cooked breakfast I do not know. Also a sirloin steak at £48.00 seemed somewhat excessive but when it became a fillet and was subject to a large surcharge it just was far too expensive.

Was nice stay, I love the view from the hotel.

Amazing hotel. The setting was so peaceful with breathtaking views. The gardens were stunning. Breakfast was gorgeous and the hotel staff were very attentive. Perfect!
