Ivy House

The location was great! Lovely little area, I’d recommend visiting rather than staying! The room was spacious and the bed was comfortable and soft. There was plenty of natural light and good air flow and conditioning. The mirror had a cool lighting effect that could be turned on or off. The host was very friendly and warm. She accommodated our touristy questions and seemed eager to help and assist us. The place was suitable for our large greyhound who had plenty of space to settle.

The breakfast was mostly deep fried and nothing appeared to be local (this is likely just me but having Aldi own brand tomato ketchup and brown sauce felt extremely cheap) given the price of the stay I’d have expected better ingredients. The coffee was an instant sachet which wasn’t specified on the menu. I found a mouldy orange peel on the floor (clearly the property wasn’t cleaned throughly) and the body wash had the most vile smelling fake watermelon scent. The bathroom had exposed bricks that jutted out at alarming angles which was distracting to the overall aesthetic. The toilet was high (my feet didn’t touch the ground!) Booking.com failed to communicate that we had a dog with us on the stay and that we needed to pay extra. Overall not much value for money here.

No complaints, very kind and helpful hosts offering everything we needed. Room was to the highest standard. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

We loved our stay at The Ivy. Absolutely spotless and we were leaving early and were able to get breakfast served earlier and exactly what we wanted - porridge & blueberries before a big cycle ride, perfect. The beds are very comfy and it’s in a quiet location. Highly recommend.

Location of this property was good situated on the edge of the village and easily accessible. Free Parking at the rear was helpful. Breakfast was good and served at a pre arranged time ordered via text the previous evening. An outdoor sitting area with tables and chairs at the front of the property was good.

The hosts first welcome wasn’t good. This host answered the door with the words ‘I was on the phone’ after I had knocked on the front door a couple of times and then told me where to move my car. The bedroom was okay. The room wasn’t serviced properly after our first night. There was an extra bottle of water left for us and the tea bags replenished, but the bins weren’t emptied and the bed was not made up. The small toiletries such as earbuds and cotton buds not replenished. The room would benefit from a fan in the hot weather. There was no flexibility as regards breakfast time when I asked for an half an hour early breakfast due to a long distance swim event I was taking part in. The option was to only have cereal left out which wasn’t sufficient to carry me through this activity. So the overall review of this property is that we would not use it again and would not recommend it to others. The stay was overpriced for the overall experience.

Beautiful restoration of an old building with more work to be done on the windows and sills. Lovely, welcoming owners who were very helpful with any of our needs. Breakfast requirements texted the night before and ready for us at the specified time. Comfortable beds and modern bathroom with easy to use shower. Car parking space. What's not to like?

Lovely guest house . Hawkeshead is beautiful. My room was so peaceful and relaxing space. Lovely and friendly hosts. I would stay here again .

Lovely little hotel. Very welcoming and I enjoyed a great night sleep.
