A wonderful place to stay. The breakfast buffet is the best I have ever experienced. The staff are very friendly and the restaurants within the hotel were are excellent! Definitely highly recommended.

Everyone was extremely friendly and accommodating. The staff at the restaurants even remembered my name after the first few days. Remarkable service, i would recommend.

Visiting San Salvador as a tourist, I faced the dilemma that there are no nice hotels in the city centre. I was forced to pick something kilometres away, and chose the Intercontinental because, while in the middle of nowhere, there was a shopping centre right across the street, which at least gave me some dining options apart from what the hotel offered. The historical centre was 3.5 km away. I took a taxi there twice, both times it cost $6 (although the hotel suggested it might cost up to $10). I arrived at the hotel at 12:30 pm and was quickly checked in by a friendly receptionist who spoke English well, as did all the members of staff that I interacted with. I got my room right away, which was great. My room on the 4th floor had nothing five-star about it and did not meet Intercontinental standards. It was not large, but rather bare-bones and cheaply renovated. The bed was very comfortable, though, and there were sockets by the bed. There was a coffee-table and an armchair, a desk, a safe, two 0.5 L water bottles replenished daily and efficient A/C. Wifi worked well both in the room as well as in the restaurants. It was free, fast, unlimited and easy to use. The bathroom was cramped and came with a walk-in shower that only had an overhead shower with awful water pressure. Amenities included shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, hand soap and body lotion, all in wall-mounted containers, which I don't like as these are not tamper-proof nor hygienic. I wish the hotel saved money elsewhere and would invest in proper single-use toiletries. There were bathrobes, but no slippers, not even on request. Breakfast was served from 6 to 10:30 and was your usual affair, nothing out of the ordinary and nothing above an average four-star spread. I liked the fresh fruit, the pupusas and the local bakery items, though. Ham and cheeses were of low quality. The hotel had three restaurants; an Italian, a Brazilian and a Japanese place. I had dinner at the Italian restaurant once and while my soup was excellent, the pasta felt more like a TV dinner, really. Prices were reasonable, though. There was a small pool in the backyard, open until 10 pm every night. Pool towels were provided. On check-out, the hotel organized a transfer to the airport, 43 kilometres away, for 40 dollars. The driver was professional and at 5 in the morning, the drive only took some 35 minutes. A street taxi should be cheaper but might not be easy to get hold of at that time. I paid 164 EUR / night, which seems a good price for this hotel, as prices often start above 200 EUR. However, I did not feel that value for money was particularly good.
