The Winning Post

This was not the experience I was expecting, especially seeing as the hotel was booked through Booking.com, someone I assumed would have some kind of vetting process. To begin, the start of the stay was awful! We arrived at the "hotel" and there was absolutely no signage what so ever, it looked as though a tornado had run across the front of the property, so we had to take a guess as to which building the hotel actually was. On the front door was a hand written note, with two phone numbers to call in order to check in... the first was met with a dial tone suggesting that the number wasn't even in the UK, and the second just seemed to go straight to answer phone. But neither allowed us to get in contact with anyone, despite trying MULTIPLE times alongside trying to contact via email and Booking.com itself. So we were left stranded outside the building with no way of getting in, and a seven year old who had been travelling most of the day and ready for a rest. We continued to try for 45 minutes to make contact, before deciding it might be worth trying another hotel. As we were talking to another hotel about staying the night, alas there was miraculously contact from who I assume was the owner of the property, who had left it in the care of another lady (I'm assuming the person who was uncontactable) but great, we could get in the room... Unfortunately not the end of the problems! We were situated in Room 6, located on the second floor - aka the floor that seemingly smelt of raw sewage! There were some fragrance diffusers outside the room, but you would have needed an industrial sized one to cover the repugnant smell. SHAME THERE WAS NOBODY TO GO AND COMPLAIN TOO! When we got into the room, we obviously wanted to shower and freshen up! But unfortunately, it would seem the hot water wasn't working or wasn't on... SHAME THERE WAS NOBODY TO GO AND COMPLAIN TOO!

Bed was very comfy and clean Plenty off towels

No hot water for sink or shower so didn’t have a wash . No point reporting issue as the staff were out and were were in rush to go out so no point waiting to get repaired . No socket for kettle side off bed and lamp didn’t work

Location was good. The basic were clean, I.e bed, floor.

Could do with an uplift. Wallpaper bubbling on the wall. The cleaner seen us in. Friendly and helpful but left to our own for the duration of the stay. Checked out at 10, and wasn't sure where to leave the key as no one there. No access to sitting, or bar room. Loads of dust on the TV window. Sockets wobble in the wall and also sparked when plugging in. Not an awful place but could do with some improvement.

Good value for money and clean and tidy.

The winning post is in a good location. Just a short walk into the busy area. Plenty of convenience stores and a chip shop nearby.

There was a god awful smell in the bathroom. Not a dirty smell but it smelt like burnt Custard creams (only way to describe it) think it was a drainage issue. Also the springs sticking out the mattress made it uncomfortable. I am not one for doing reviews but I believe these things need sorted. Overall a good place to stay.
