Heartland Hotel Glacier Country

The layout of this accommodation was very unusual in that the wash hand basin was not in the bathroom. It was in fact the other side of the bedroom from the bathroom. Unhygienic! The room was in desperate need of updating and the reception area was dark and dingy and not often manned. There are two Heartland Hotels in Fox Glacier so special attention needs to be taken when booking. This hotel was not Heartland Hotel Fox Glacier but Heartland Hotel Glacier Country which appears to be creating some confusion on reviews. On asking we were told that the restaurant in this hotel was not open for independent travellers but that the other Heartland Hotel restaurant was available. We decided to move on earlier than planned due to the whole experience being very depressing and not what we had come to expect from New Zealand accommodation. On our booking form we were told that the room opened onto a balcony. In fact there was a chair outside our entrance door leading onto the access walkway. Not a balcony!

The rooms are tired. The location is very remote with few amenities so the room would benefit from adding a couple of kitchen facilities. It doesn't have to be a kitchenette, just a microwave and a couple of plates with cutlery. The room was as basic as it could be and everything is old. There isn't an outside seating area. So much like a cell really !

One night stop over for bus connection. Convenient, clean and close to services in town

As my title says was clean and tidy Comfortable close to everything Easy access only thing we had a issue with was in was nearly empty but they put the only two guests next to w other

After a big drive from the Picton ferry we were very happy to arrive at our destination and find a comfortable, clean room. Our hot water wasn't working properly but the hotel staff immediately opened the empty room next door for us to use. Thank you
