Suburban Studios LaVale - Cumberland

We arrived at 4:30. (Check in is 3pm on the website/2pm according to the sign in the lobby) we were told the room wasn’t ready as ot was still being cleaned and were asked to wait or come back in about 30 minutes. We then returned about 8pm. The room didn’t appear to have been cleaned at all. The floor didn’t appear to have been swept or mopped in weeks. There were dead flies and bugs on the floor by the walls. There was dirt and hair on the sheets. The caulk around the tub had mold/mildew. There was no cold water in the shower. It was scalding hot and when the temp was turned down the water pressure jumped went away and it stayed hot. The room was advised as an efficiency with a Kitchen. There was zero dishes, pans, cooking utensils or utensils. When you walked into the lobby is smelled of cigarettes. My wife went to the front desk to ask for clean sheets. Around 8:15. She waited 15 minutes before anyone came to the front desk. Will not return. We checked out a day early.

The bed was comfortable but the handle on the bathroom tub was broken, a watermain break outside must have occurred overnight so we had no water in the morning! That wasn't the motel's fault, but we couldn't get a shower anyway as the handle was broken. I replaced the toilet paper roll - no big deal but it should have been done before we arrived. The walls in the hall were beat up and dirty. The elevator was questionable. This was the worst Choice Hotel I've ever stayed in.

Dirty and apparently not safe as we were told nothing is in our room, like pots, pans, dishes, etc. because people steal them. You have to ask for EVERYTHING. They have a lot of extended stay customers. The only good thing was the staff. They were very kind and helpful, but we would not stay there again. A little too pricey too.

I'll mention the pros before the cons. Suburban Studios is easy to access from the Interstate, it is very near shopping and restaurants, the price is on the low end of the scale, and the lobby staff was quite friendly. However, the room can't be recommended. It was clean, but dated, with an uneven and stained floor. The bedside light didn't work and its wall outlet was partially melted. My wife found the sheets so uncomfortable that she slept on a bath towel. The kitchen set-up would be useful for a longer stay, but it comes with no utensils, pans, or plates. There is no coffee maker, nor cups that could be used to boil water in the microwave. I rarely notice wall art in hotel rooms, but the total lack of any decoration in the room or hallway has an odd vibe. The walls are thin, so plumbing sounds from neighboring rooms sound like your bathroom has been invaded. Pushing the rating down to 1 star, I discovered that the shower was unusable - the cold water was not working at all, which meant the flow from the tap was scalding. This is not where you want to stay.

Location to huge variety of eateries and a walmart.

V and Tejas were very polite! Room was clean and comfortable. I liked the wood laminate floors, they are cleaner than carpet. Was quiet relaxing night of sleep. Many security cameras made us feel safe. Highly recommend, thanks
