Governor's Mansion Inn

We loved the Governor's Mansion Inn! We were blown away by this gorgeous building, its excellent condition and its beautiful furnishings. The Inn is well-located near the lakeshore and the Capitol -- we walked to a delicious dinner, and enjoyed a gorgeous sunset on the lake from the backyard. Next time we come to Madison, we'll be back!

Walking distance to capital

I needed a place to stay two nights for a quick trip to Madison. This place was perfect! It’s located on the lake on a quiet street. There is no front desk staff so check-in involved getting an email with door code instructions. I honestly never needed to call the 24 hour service number because my room was well stocked with everything I needed. There is even a light breakfast of tea, coffee, fruit and scones. If you are traveling alone or don’t require much assistance when traveling this place is perfect!

This is such a beautiful property. The artwork and furnishings are a mix of funky and antique, and our room had a view of Lake Mendota. You can walk to State Street from the property. And lastly....the scones and coffee were great!!

Enjoyed my stay so much I extended for an additional day. Great location. Bob's scones are EXCELLENT, made fresh each morning. My only complaint -- and it's minor: the shampoo packets are virtually impossible to open, so consider bringing your own shampoo.

Wonderful little gem in easy walking distance of everything downtown.

The inn was charming and beautifully/thoughtfully maintained. The surroundings were quiet and scenic; highly recommend.

Beautiful building in a convenient location. The neighborhood is called Mansion Hill. I recommend walking around to gawk atthe old mansions. Par for an old building, my room is freezing cold and even blasting the heater, i cannot get it over 63° in here. I was only warned after booking the reservation, which is non-refundable, that there is no staff on the premises at all. Wish I would've brought more warm clothes as Wisconsin in April is chilly and the room is very cold.

Great location. Walk to downtown and restaurants. Right on the lake. Had downstairs unit with convenient parking and easy entrance. However, had couple of spiders crawling on the walls and there were ants on the bathroom floor even though there was an ant trap. Otherwise a good place to stay.
