Toemu Nozawa Lodge

Great location to the ski slopes with only a short walk, made all the better by hiring at the base of the gondola at a place that can store your skis and boots overnight. Simple but nice in-house Onsen - very appealing after a long, cold day of skiing to soothe the muscles. Fantastic drying room for ski gear with lots of space. Great buffet breakfast with an omelet station and pancake station (very popular with the kids) - both Western-style and Japanese food available. Staff are accommodating with free shuttle services to and from the main bus stop. Great for families, with a common area for playing games.

Although suitable to our skiing holiday needs, it didn’t have the warm, cosy feeling of a ski-lodge with a quiet place in front of fire to lounge at the end of the day, so more suited to families with kids or younger groups. Our room was right next to the communal showers and was very noisy early in the mornings and could hear people moving around in the upstairs rooms. Had a bit of a school camp feel about the communal spaces. Futon was rather thin and not overly comfortable - required a double thickness.

The traditional style room was very comfortable. We enjoyed the included breakfast, and thought the location was good too.

Toemu Nozawa exceeded our expectations. The staff were extremely helpful from the moment I booked, offering advice on where & how to organise ski gear hire & lessons and helping arrange an additional night stay. They pick you up from the train station - 300YEN for our family of 5, it was snowing heavily when we arrived so was great to be met by staff. It is maximum 10 minute walk to the main gondola and main street with cafes, restaurants etc. The beds are very comfy and rooms have plenty of space to store your luggage. The breakfast is fabulous, including a pancake station, omelette station, cereals, pastries, juice etc. The shared bathrooms were very quiet and the small option a nice way to end the day if not wanting to walk out to public ones. The downstairs area is lovely to sit by the fire of an evening while the kids play table tennis. Would definitely stay again.

Good location in the village and close enough to walk to the gondola (even with a 6 year old kid). Property seems to have been update a bit recently and was clean. Staff were helpful when needed. Breakfast was good but could do with a few extra healthy options (though pancake station was a hit with the kids). Hotel hot bath was great.

This is not a traditional Japanese pension experience (but all depends what you're looking for). Lots of staff around but hard to tell who worked there (perhaps wearing name tags or aprons or something when on duty would help).

Location. Is close to the ski field, town and onsen and the village is absolutely gorgeous.

The staff are.really nice but are al on working holidays so not very authentic. It would great if they said good morning in Jaoanese for example.at. breakfast time. They were super helpful whenever we asked any questions and were doing a great job.

This reminds me of an old school ski lodge! It is an older building with lots of stairs and corridors - in a good way! Great location, close to Main Street and a bit up the hill which makes it closer to the lifts. The staff are super friendly and very helpful. Breakfast is great!

Nothing, but a recommendation, choose a room with beds unless you know that you can sleep a few nights on Tatami mats!
