Houston Grand Hotel - River Oaks

Our stay was short but comfortable..my only wish was for a Little more water pressure in the shower.

Who made our visit to the St. Regis Houston so special? EVERYONE! Beginning with the wonderful Abril, who worked with us via phone and email prior to our arrival to make my wife's birthday memorable for all the best reasons. David - who has been a bellman at this location for most of the past 40 years - was the first to greet us on our arrival - and he never failed to address us by name (very classy!) Because we were ahead of our scheduled arrival time, Onur at the front desk switched us from our scheduled room to one which was not only available then - it was an upgrade! We attended the afternoon tea, where we were serenaded by the flawless harpist (who even took requests!), and we were thoroughly spoiled by the attentive Gregoria and Luci. The spectacular "sabering" ceremony at 6PM (opening a champagne bottle with a flashing blade) was performed with aplomb and style by yet another 20+ year veteran of the hotel. The charming and efficient Juan served us a late night meal in our room, while the personable Ron took care of our breakfast needs most graciously. My wife said it was her best and most memorable birthday - ever! Thank you St. Regis Houston and all your caring, professional staff!

From the moment we arrived at the St. Regis Houston we felt welcomed and appreciated by every staff member we encountered. The answer to any question or request was yes, and what else can I do for you? Truly a testament to staff members in every department who care about the customer experience. Our upgraded Astor suite with connecting room was wonderfully sized, as was the additional room we booked for a family member. This is not a flashy glitz and glam hotel, and it does not have the most modern updates, but it has a refined elegance that felt like an escape from reality. We won’t hesitate to stay here again when back in Houston.

It was nothing less than amazing. The staff is great. Customer service is definitely something they work hard on.

Great Romantic Getaway.

Every single staff member encountered was amazing from valet to check-in to room service. Very friendly, attentive, and helpful. Room service was excellent. We ordered the salmon, a burger, lobster bisque, and salad. I booked a King Deluxe room and wasn't impressed upon entry. The room smelled and looked a bit dated - not the crisp, refreshing feel I'd expect here. The carpets could use a good cleaning. The bathroom tiles, toilets, walls, looked and felt old. Had to hold down the lever on the toilet for a proper flush. The iron had burned on material which stained my husband's pants when he tried using it. The pool steps, corners, and crevices have a rust like, hard water staining going on. Lots of debris and leaves in the pool - possibly from the wind and rain the night before. Nevertheless, didn't make for an inviting swim experience. I opted to lounge poolside. Another little zinger is that we paid for oversized valet because we travelled with our truck and trailer. The valet wasn't experienced in handling the trailer, so we parked and retrieved our own vehicle during our stay...yet paid the full valet charge. Not a biggie - and we never mentioned this to the hotel, just thought I'd mention here in case you're parking true oversized vehicles. I'd planned to be here next month but decided to cancel those reservations. Although the staff and food were great, I wouldn't choose to stay here again because of the accommodations.

It was very nice. However, I did not like the fact that dogs could stay in all of the rooms. I thought there was a designated space in the hotel for dogs to stay in. My son is allergic to dogs.
