I have visited several times over the years and have previously enjoyed the facilities and found the hotel welcoming and dog friendly

It has changed ownership and although your dog can stay in your room it is no longer welcome in the rest of the hotel. Expect to be shouted at if you break the rules. It is now about profit rather than customer satisfaction it is more run down than the excellent facilities and services provided in the past. I received 3 emails and a text the day before and the day of my arrival intimating that my stay would be cancelled if I did not register and pay before my arrival contrary to booking.com terms and conditions

"In its hayday it would have been the place to be"

Set in large grounds which includes a golf course at which it is the centre piece. In its day it would have been a hive of activity.

It is a warren of blocks and corridors but they try to help with plenty of signs. The decore is now quite dated and it needs updating - the room I stayed in was comfortable but noise from corridor and nearby rooms could easily be heard. £5 charge to use the gym and spa an unnecessary complication - simply include it for ease of use. Gym has plenty of aerobic equipment but no weights etc
