"Canceled Reservation Charged Anyway — No Response from Hotel"

I reserved a room at Quality Inn Parkersburg North–Vienna on December 10, 2025 for check-in December 26 and check-out December 27. On December 26 at 2:33 PM I called to cancel the reservation — well within the advertised 4:00 PM cancellation deadline. The manager I spoke with repeatedly told me he could not find my reservation in the system even after I gave multiple variations of my name. I assumed there had been a booking miscommunication. On December 29, 2025 I noticed my credit card had been charged and called the hotel. The manager said he would contact Choice Hotels and call me back, but he never did. I called again on January 2, 2026 and was told he had a family issue and would call me back — he did not. I called a final time on January 13, 2026; the manager said he had been busy, took my number again, and claimed to have canceled my room while also mentioning unrelated group cancellations. I spoke to the same manager every time. Because I canceled within the stated policy and received no follow-through or refund, I suspect my reservation was mishandled and then treated as a no-show. The lack of communication, accountability, and follow-up is unacceptable. I am requesting a full refund and clearer resolution from hotel management or Choice Hotels. Until this is resolved I cannot recommend staying here.

Never got to check in staff was extremely rude. I didn’t realize I had lost my wallet at the convention and the person I was with was under 21 so they wouldn’t accept his ID wasn’t willing to work with me at all or let me get my money back so I paid for a room they refused to let me in.

Great location! Red Lobster on one side with Dunkin Donuts beside it, Outback Steakhouse on the other side of the hotel and behind the steak house is a good sized mall. The room disappointed but it is an older property so the rooms and bathroom is tight. The problem I had with the room I was in was the fixtures were pited and dull, not at huge deal but the sink fixture was loose as well as the bathroom door handle and the toilet seat. Small stuff but it adds up, then there was food left in the freezer compartment of the fridge, still adding that the ice bucket was sticky like it hadn't been washed recently and the art work needed dusted. Oh, i just remembered the shampoo dispenser was empty.

New owners are very nice and care about the cleanliness of the rooms and property. Excellent continental breakfast w fresh tea & coffee. Close to shopping and restaurants

"Disaster!"

Nothing except the staff was friendly

The carpet leading to the room was dirty and stained. Walking into the room we had a very sour/ moldy smell. The headboard on the one bed had an obvious greasy hair mark on the headboard. The bathroom floor had obvious dried up drip marks around the toilet and I also saw several pieces of hair which is absolutely unacceptable. There was an obvious thick dust and dirt all around the edges all around the room as well. We did not end up staying at this hotel, and I have contacted booking.com and sent an email to explain all of this and I honestly feel that a refund should be honored since I did not stay. We talked to the manager at the desk and he said there was nothing he could do but that we needed to contact booking.com.
