"A room with a view … but very little else"

2.0

location was great, staff wonderful

Bedroom: Honestly the room was TINY I’d guess about 10 foot by 12 foot (hotel please correct me on this if I’m wrong on that) it has no wardrobes or drawers to put clothes in, so apart from a few pairs of my trousers and a few of my wife’s dresses which we put on coat hangers around the walls to stop them creasing, the rest of our clothes had to stay in the suitcase we brought them in. Another observation was that the room got extremely warm in the early evenings (I did check and the heating was not on) so we ended up sleeping with the window open, a fan was provided in the room, so I’m guessing the hot room issue was a known problem, but the thing was so noisy we couldn’t sleep with it on, hence the open window as the weather was cool outside On the plus side the view was fairly good and the binoculars on the windowsill were a nice touch also the bed was comfortable. Bathroom: Sorry but this was a even worse, quite narrow but usable, being generous I’ll just say it had a ‘dubious’ smell, which got marginally worse after flushing the toilet, one tap was coming away from the wall, the shower did not draining properly, rapidly filling up and overflowing onto the floor, oh and one of the two sinks appeared to be blocked so we just used the other one. Then there is the point that a number of guests and reviewers have mentioned… the cost of food and drink,,, Quite simply the cost of breakfast is in my opinion extortionate, as this time we booked via booking.com breakfast wasn’t included and we were told by the hotel breakfast was £18 per person per day, so £36 per day for us! For what we have for breakfast it would actually be cheaper for us to eat at the Dorchester on Park Lane in London (yes I actually looked it up!)
By chance we had read a review about this which suggested a lovely little cafe 5 mins walk away and got a wonderful breakfast for less than £10, sadly the fish and chips shop on site was equally expensive.

The staff were very welcoming on arrival and the Cosy Double room was spotlessly clean and plenty big enough for an overnight stay. The bed was very comfortable and my husband liked the pillows so much I have ordered a couple for home! Would definitely stay here again if in this area

"Great dog friendly short break"

5.0

Fantastic place in good location right on the sea front- 2 min walk down steps onto beach. Great area in front with 10 tables then 50 ish tables in rear garden, split Dinning’s areas inside - dog friendly everywhere. Bed comfy on 1st floor, bathroom good - all very clean.

Couldn’t get a table apparently all reserved / booked but we noted the same 10 tables not used all night - don’t think the staff wanted the extra service …… nothing major but the food menu looked appealing.

"We have stayed at the Ship before, in a tiny room. We hoped the “deluxe room” would be better."

1.0

Liked the location

The room (a Superior/deluxe sea view room) was horrible. The decor was awful with the donkey toy and cigarette advertising posters, it was not shabby chic, just shabby. No drawers or wardrobe for clothes storage. No facilities in bathroom for toiletries, other than a horrible rusty shelf over the small enamel wash basin. The windows were filthy and the accumulation of black mould on the window frames was nasty.

"Short break."

8.0

The Ship Inn is very close to the beach, good for long walks, The restaurant provides good wholesome food at a reasonable price, drinks, a good selection at a decent price all in all a good place for a short break.

Our room was a comfort double on the roadside of the Inn room 8 smallish room but well equipped, the only real downsides were a very small shower cubicle, if you dropped the soap you have to get out of the shower to retrieve it, also the noise from the kitchen extractor was very off-putting running from 7-30 am to 9-30 pm.
