Aloft by Marriott Kathmandu Thamel

Disappointed with the restaurant and their services of the restaurant and the menu, not up to the mark of hotel we not happy

I stayed at the Aloft Thamel, Kathmandu, for 4 days before and after a 2 week Himalayan trek and I have nothing but praise for this superb hotel! Centrally located in the trekkers' paradise of Thamel, it is an oasis of calm after a day of sightseeing. Rooms are very clean and well appointed - housekeeping staff go out of their way to ensure that you return to a beautifully tidy and clean room, with little touches like bottled water and toiletries an added bonus. Breakfasts are plentiful and very wide-ranging - absolutely anything and everything to suit all tastes! Evening meals range from the excellent buffets to a superb à la carte menu - beautifully cooked and presented - the kitchen staff should be very proud of their efforts! Staff throughout so friendly and helpful - a true Nepali welcome in a worldwide chain is amazing! Special mention must be made to 3 wonderful staff in the dining room: Rajani, Rebecca and Medina. The 3 of them with their welcoming smiles and ready chat and laughter would brighten up any traveller's day. Ready with my tea each morning, always polite yet always ready to have a joke and make me feel at ease - so lovely when you are a lone traveller. The 3 of them are a credit to the Aloft and I hope management appreciate their their hard work and friendliness. All staff at the hotel are polite and welcoming - from the guards and concierge in the lobby to the staff at the spa and pool. I would highly recommend the Aloft for anyone considering a stay in Kathmandu and very much hope to return in the future. Dhanyabad!

Nice people work here especially miss srijana. Also the gym and lobby are nice and they have healthy food for breakfast and dinner

An incredible place to stay, I am so fussy with comfort and cleanliness but it was 5/5 stars. The bed could not have been softer, the room was spotless, and the staff were so kind and ready to help with anything we wanted or needed.

I was blown away by the hospitality of this Marriott. I have stayed at numerous Marriott properties and I have never been treated so well. Somehow the hotel knew it was my birthday and when I opened the door to my room my bed was decorated with balloons and flowers and they brought a cake to my room. It was thoughtful; it touched my heart. When I checked out they gave me a small gift. The accommodations and food were great but it was really the people that made this stay so special.

The breakfast was amazing and the stay was so comfortable and wonderful. The managememt team were very professional yet friendly overall it was really great.

I travel frequently and stay mostly at Marriott properties, but Aloft Kathmandu Thamel has been the single worst hotel experience of my life. This place is a disgrace to the Marriott brand, and the senior management is shockingly insensitive, arrogant, and absolutely unprofessional. 1. Serious safety hazard — Shower collapsed on my head While taking a bath, the shower fitting literally fell on my head, causing injury and shock. Instead of apologizing or acknowledging such a frightening incident, the hotel’s senior management — especially the GM — showed zero concern. I personally requested to speak with him multiple times, but he refused to meet me, refused to call, and behaved as if guest safety means nothing to them. Also One day I was unwell with fever (day after the bathroom accident) I requested breakfast in my room, which the staff bluntly refused though my room rate was with breakfast included. they even charged me for providing breakfast in my room. This shows how untrained and insensitive the staff truly is. Only after I complained to the duty manager at checkout did they waive the charge — not out of concern, but because it was just a few dollars for them and my room rate was with breakfast included. Their attitude towards guest wellbeing is shockingly poor, and their behaviour completely unacceptable for a hotel claiming to follow Marriott standards. 2. My very expensive jacket was ruined in their laundry due to their negligence and they offered a joke of compensation. Instead of taking responsibility, the hotel offered a ridiculous 20% of the item’s value — a complete insult. And again, the GM avoided to meet n come over phone, hid behind his staff, and didn’t have the basic courtesy to talk to a guest whose property they damaged. He just replied on emails and that too with attitudes. 3. Senior management has attitude issues and no customer ethics The staff tries, but the senior management behaves like they are doing a favor by allowing guests to stay there. No empathy, no accountability, no listening to genuine grievances. I have never seen such cold-hearted behaviour in the hospitality industry. 4. It’s a Franchise hotel that does NOT meet Marriott standards. They keep using the Marriott name, but this property clearly runs like a low-grade local hotel. Being a franchise model, Aloft Nepal blatantly ignores Marriott’s basic service standards, safety protocols, and customer-handling guidelines. They ruin the reputation of a globally trusted brand. 5. Zero responsibility for guest safety and wellbeing Even after a serious incident inside their bathroom and damage to my personal belongings, the management’s behaviour was full of excuses, denial, and arrogance. Not once did the GM or senior team even attempt to resolve anything professionally. 6. Absolutely NOT recommended If you value your safety, your belongings, and your peace of mind — do NOT stay here. There are many better hotels in Kathmandu that truly care about guests. Aloft Nepal only cares about money, not the people staying with them. Marriott should seriously review this property, because Aloft Kathmandu is destroying their brand name.
