Neues Schloss Privat Hotel Zurich, Autograph Collection

This is not the worst hotel I have stayed in. It is one of the worst. Zurich five star hotels are, in general, reliably pleasant. This one is such an exception that the handy man must have glued at least two stars to the name plaque at the front door. The curtain covering an entire wall as you walk in begins to suggest they are hiding something. Then it all becomes clear, this hotel is a psychological experiment to test the point at which a client will react and refuse to sleep the night or ask if the CHF 420 price for a single room has had the handy man also add a zero. The entirely windowless reception area is manned by one person. The bar area is unmanned, through the corner to a kitchen-type room I found the doorman hanging around who kindly went to look for someone. My single room is so small it is impossible to rest my one cabin-size bag on any flat surface, including the floor. The decor, I accept a matter of taste, is, nonetheless, horrible. To save refurbishment costs, the shower has been installed by placing a plastic phone box at the corner of the minute bathroom with artificial pretend-ceramic tiles. The towel rails are detaching from the walls. As ever - and this is a tell-tale test - installing air conditioning systems is expensive so……….they’ve cut every possible corner. The room’s temperature control pretends to allow you to set it. The numbers flash down. Give it a second, they flash back up. What they call air conditioning is recirculating air that makes no difference. Incongruously, the restaurant’s Latin American theme has the effect of distributing high-pitched Cuban, Panamanian or Salvadorian (I presume) music throughout every public space that, luckily, you can leave as there is nothing to keep you there.

This small boutique hotel is only a couple of minutes walk from the lake in Zurich and about 10-15 mins walk into the Old town. All of the staff were so hospitable and eager to make our stay as easy and enjoyable as possible. Thak you to Olga and the front desk staff for taking the time to find and reserve some delicious and stylish restaurants in the city. Thank you to David and his evening staff for keeping the kitchen open when we arrived late and serving some delicious appetizers and wine. The jazz trio on Wednesday evening in the restaurant was an added bonus. Thank you, too, to the breakfast crew - Tarryn and Francia for serving some delicious much needed coffee and soft morning tunes… just delightful. We will certainly return to this hotel when we are come back to Zurich.

Fabulous hotel! Rhoni (sp?) Prompltly retrieved our luggage from taxi and carried to lobby, after a long day of travel it was so nice to be welcomed to your beautiful hotel. Front desk staff exceptional and check in and check out fast. Bar area nice. Breakfast staff friendly, seated us promptly and breakfast items very fresh. Coffee, fresh juice, fruit, breads/pastries, vegetables and eggs were wonderful. Very comfortable room. Love the natural shampoo, conditioner, soaps which are complimentary. Shower nice walk-in, plenty of towels. Close to river and beautiful walk to Old Town. Quiet street. Highly recommend.

The hotel is modern and we had a lovely room and in walking distance of the Zürichersee , Bahnhofstrasse and Old Town Zurich. Excellent breakfast with plenty of choices and evening meals available except on Sundays. Pleasant and helpful staff !

Having called Zürich for 5 years, our stay at Neues Schloss was nothing less than exceptional.. Looking forward to go back!

The location was great - easy to get to from the airport and in a quiet and safe area. The staff could not have been more nice and accommodating and the bed was very comfortable.

The rooms were tired looking - marks on the walls and on the carpet. The rooms were also relatively small for the price and the amenities in the room were not what I would expect from a 5 star hotel (ie only shower cap and couple of cotton buds)
