The location was in an area which we weren’t expecting. At self check In the sensor light at the lift doesn’t stay on long enough and we were left in the dark while trying to punch in code for entry

It was very clean, nicely decorated and the little details make a difference like having coffee and tea available at any time, bottles of water and juice too. The owner let us make an early check in which was great!

The neighborhood seemed dangerous, we saw a pair of parked cars with broken windows in that same street, and the entrance is not very visible.

The room itself was spacious, and the decor was lovely. I enjoyed the marble shower, but the steps into and out of it get very slippery—both my husband and I nearly fell on several occasions. The coffee and tea set up in the room is one of the nicest I’ve ever experienced. We appreciated the free water bottles as well.

The location. The inn is convenient to a train station, but very little else without walking through some areas that feel neglected and possibly unsafe. The entryway of the building adds to the sketchy vibe; it is dark and dingy, and the lights go out of you stop moving at all. Very different from the rooms themselves, but until we arrived at our floor, the first impression wasn’t good. There is a lovely, large, light-filled kitchen, but guests aren’t allowed to cook in it, so it seems a bit of a waste. Without staff on site, and no other guests (as far as we know from going in and out of the kitchen) it was a little eerie.

Les Lofts d'Artistes is a conglomerate of 8 (if I counted right) rooms, studios, and mini-apartments, that were created through a refurbishment of a former industrial building dating back to the late 1800s or early 1900s. It seems that they are managed by one of the real estate companies that are now offering their services to administrate short-term rentals across the larger cities of Europe. This is done in a smart way: One person from the management company will be your contact from the beginning to the end of your stay and provide you with all the information and support needed during this time. A very helpful approach, as you know who to turn to in any situation. I arrived with a late flight, but this was not a problem, as my contact, Aya, made sure that I got the number codes to the front for and for the key box that had the keys for my loft. The loft itself is nice, with quality furniture and a nice interior design. It is organized with a king-size bed and couch (together with a water heater, a coffee machine, and complementary coffee and tea) in one room and a large space for shower, toilet and washbasin in a second room. The little apartments, lofts, or rooms, that make up the Lofts d'Artistes, are arranged in two levels around a central staircase, with a large open kitchen in the center. I think that the original idea was to allow people to cook and have a nice time together, but this might have escalated in the past, and led to damage. So right now you can only use the fridge and the tableware, but you are not allowed to cook. What the kitchen provides, however, is access to complementary drinking water and soft drinks. Very nice to find, when you arrive late at night. There is also a little terrace that is accessible through the kitchen, and the idea of having an early breakfast outside in summer seems attractive. All in all, a nice design, a cozy environment, and good and accessible support. Thank you, Aya!

The first glitch was that the virtual information package contained a French mobile number as my late-hour contact, that turned out to be irrelevant for Brussels. My local contact made up for it by being available for me until late in the evening, and very patient... When booking the loft, I knew that I needed two things: Internet access and an iron and ironing board. Both had been advertised in the description of the loft, when I booked it. Yet both came with a challenge. For the wifi code there were codes on two different slips of paper, where I was unable to figure out which was the right one. For the iron..., it was not there. My contact helped me solve the wifi question, but, given the late hour, could do nothing for me regarding the iron. Easy to understand that I was pissed with the prospect of going to my next day business meeting with a wrinkled shirt. The iron and ironing board were brought in the next afternoon, and I was happy to discover that this was high-end appliance material. So that, together with the apologies of my contact, appeased me, as one can see in my ratings for the loft.

The space is magnificent with so much room to spread out. The communal kitchen space was useful. Such a nice place to slow down on our trip

Very quick 15 min walk to the local HBF through a neighbourhood that didn’t seem great when we arrived but quickly got used to the area. Give it a moment and you will be fine… it’s worth it for this property.
