"Great stay in Tobago"

10.0

Stayed at Coco Reef Resort and Spa with family over New Year's. A great location - great safe beach for families and happily never too crowded. The property is amazing - beautifully maintained grounds. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. The only downside is the fact that the rooms are tired and in need of gentle renewal. But then again, are you really going to the tropics to stay in your room. A great experience - and did I mention that there is a dive shop on the property.

"Absolute chilled out tropical paradise."

10.0

Perfect location, stunning beach with fantastic snorkelling! The reef directly off the beach is teeming with fish, I also saw my first squid and beautiful green moray eel! The food was delicious, fillet steaks and coconut snapper were my favourites and the cocktails were really good, service is on Caribbean time- what’s the hurry? We had nowhere to be! The rooms are delightfully old fashioned but cleaned every day, it had everything we needed and we fell asleep each night to sound of the waves on the rocks. The town is fun to walk around, we were all inclusive but there are loads of street food stands 5 minutes walk away and the local people were so friendly, we felt totally safe going out. We will definitely be going back at some point, the staff were great too. We did a tour of the island with Peter Cox tours which was an amazing day and I will do a separate review of this. How anyone can not enjoy their stay here is beyond me.

"Awful"

2.0

Absolutely awful experience for my wife’s 50th birthday and wanted to go home after 4 days. The hotel is dirty, as the pictures show m, and that’s just the bathroom. The public toilets are often blocked, service appalling and the food terrible, especially in the evening. Have to wait 20-30 minutes every night just for a drink despite being asked on more than one occasion if want another drink. Try actually bringing it. The manager doesn’t address any of the issues and doesn’t actually care either as made more than one complaint, but don’t even get a response. We will never come back to this hotel ever again and has been a complete misery and the worst experience I’ve ever had on a holiday in over 50 years. It was not cheap and when tried to get a transfer BA wanted another £3k and couldn’t even guarantee our flight home. Was advertised as a 4* but actually no better than a 1-2 and that’s being generous. Will also never use BA again either as the second time had problems with them and again didn’t care about our complaint, just wanted more money. Is very sad when saved up and worked very hard for a year that this is what we have encountered. Lots of other guests have also made the same complaints without anything being done either. And found out are rats in the reception area. The reception area had water running through the ceiling tonight and not the first time but again nothing is done. The staff are young and not interested whether everything is okay or not and just wander around. In the evening the food is generally cold and just don’t eat it. I wouldn’t recommend anyone coming here and we can’t wait to go home as cold and miserable England is better than this. We do intend hiring a car for 3-4 days to go and see the rain forest and coral reef just to get out somewhere nicer for a few days so hopefully that will be an enjoyable part and something to remember as the rest has been something to forget!

"Simply paradise!"

10.0

Coco reef is just paradise! It is on the Caribbean side of the Island which has the most amazing beaches. The private beach in the hotel is beautiful and built into a cove so is perfectly calm. There is even snorkelling around the rocks with some gorgeous fish. The food is incredible! A buffet style breakfast with so much choice: everything from a variety of fruits to a delicious hot breakfast. Lunch you can choose off the menu - we had most things during our stay, tuna salad was unbelievable but everything so tasty. Evening meal again is chosen off a menu - once again a nice selection with so much choice and everything we had was delicious. The staff make the hotel! All so friendly and kind. My glass of wine was poured as I walked to the bar! We had a small issue meaning we had to change room (totally out of the hotel’s control) - Ester was brilliant and could not have been more helpful. Location is great - walking distance to Crown Point town, pigeon point beach (stunning) and even the airport 😂, but strangely you can’t even hear the occasional plane that comes in. We hired a car for two days which was cheap and efficient. In conclusion, if we don’t come back to Coco Reef we have simply failed in life! Thank you so much! Liam

"Coco Reef, the Shangri La of the Caribbean"

10.0

Located about ten minutes walking distance from the airport, Coco Reef is a Shangri La with comfortable rooms, beautiful staff, delicious food and a beautiful, safe, private beach. It can quite easily be a setting for a James Bond movie, complete with helicopter landing pad and a gold coloured Rolls Royce. The scenic curved entrance gives way to a driveway winding through a beautifully manicured botanical garden, ending at a roundabout with water features. The entrance to the lobby reveals breathtaking ocean views. On arrival you are provided with a welcome drink. The corridors are lined with beautiful paintings paying homage to its past and the heritage of the island. The rooms are clean, cheerful and furnished with curved wicker furniture. The bathroom is well stocked with toiletries. The buffet breakfast caters to every taste. Attention to detail is evident everywhere, even in the public washrooms close to the beach. The staff is professional, efficient, friendly and works like one unit in love and camaderie. Special thanks to Mr. Kern, Mr. Tristan Kay, Ariel, Mikela, the omelet cook, the Tamara Restaurant Manager, the Karaoke Master of Ceremonies, Housekeeping. Ms. Pearl whom I 've not met but whom all the staff greets lovingly as they pass by reception.

We stayed 2 nights at this hotel. The power went out several times during the course of our stay. We were told they had no control of power outages, but other buildings and restaurants had power and were fully functional. The pool was not working and we did not receive any prior notice so we could make an informed decision. Instead we were told the pool had a leak and it was under repair. There wasn’t even a mention of a discount for the inconvenience. It was false advertising. The hotel is completely run down and dated. There was a bad odor in the corridor and grounds are unkept. Dining accommodations were poor at best. We were served drinks that were supposed to be carbonated, but were flat, then replaced with bottled drinks that were not cold. Dinner services started at 7pm, with no alternatives other than eating outside the hotel. My suggestion to others spending almost $400USD per night, do not go to this hotel or even this island. You’re better off paying $100 with no expectations. On the last day, after speaking to the manager who was so terribly sorry to hear of all the issues has yet to contact me after assuring me he would reach out. I gave them a week before posting a review. Shame on management and staff for poor the service, facilities and lack of respect and decency to be up front about the true state of your so called luxury resort.

"We keep going back"

8.0

Our fourth visit to Coco Reef. The hotels strengths are: great staff who cannot do enough for you, location is perfect, private beach on your doorstep but close to the amazing Pidgeon point heritage park and beach, close to all the amenities you need. Rooms are clean and comfortable with air conditioning that delivers and comfortable beds. Breakfast is really good, the restaurant offers good formal dining but is not a cheap option. Do get out and about and try some local food from the nearby restaurants and street food vendors on the main road and at Store Bay Beach next door to the hotel. Our excellent guide Dexter of Island Man Tours introduced us to some great eateries and took us on a culinary Safari around the Island visiting some real gems. The hotel offers some entertainment in the evening including a fun Karaoke session in the bar and plenty more is to be found outside. Bad points: the hotel needs maintenance and updating of the rooms, especially the bathrooms. The hotel has a strange process for the signing of bills whereby you have to visit reception to sign after your session. This is something that needs to stop as it is quite irritating. In summary, expect to enjoy the experience but you need to accept the shortcomings. Still a great place to stay, Tobago is a great place to take a break, except to be welcomed by the locals, there are no barriers to integration, you will be welcomed everywhere you go.

"Private Beach, Incredible Food, Wonderful People – Coco Reef Delivers"

10.0

I returned to Coco Reef in July 2025, having last stayed there 20 years ago. Some might say it hasn’t changed much in that time — but for me, that’s exactly the point. Its timeless charm is what sets it apart. The location is unbeatable: a private, secluded beach with snorkelling right on your doorstep, sea-facing rooms, and sweeping views. The hotel’s scale is something you rarely see today — an enormous lobby, oversized rooms, wide open spaces, and a long, graceful driveway. Modern resorts simply aren’t built this way anymore. Yes, the property shows its age here and there, but it is immaculately clean. More importantly, the staff are genuinely kind and attentive. During our stay, the owners even had a troubleshooter on-site, actively identifying areas for improvement — a sign they care about its future. The food deserves special mention. The breakfast buffet is outstanding, with plenty of local dishes, while the restaurant exceeded all expectations (try the Mahi Mahi — unforgettable). Coco Reef suits both families and couples. For romance, hire a private boat directly from the hotel’s harbour and tour the island. For fun, hop on a party boat from neighbouring Store Bay. We took a trip straight from the private beach with local skipper Brandon — an incredible way to experience Tobago’s tropical sea life up close. In short, Coco Reef offers a rare kind of Caribbean experience — authentic, relaxed, and full of character. It’s not about glossy perfection, but about warmth, atmosphere, and memories that last. That’s why, for me, it’s a clear 5/5. I wish the Coco Reef every success in attracting more international visitors in the future and getting the investment it deserves.

Loved the hotel, pool and beach. I would book again. Noise from nearby pubs and bars can cause issues sleeping and can take some getting used to.
