Sabah Oriental Hotel

Room was big but very dated

The air-conditioning was very old that didn't seem to be healthy staying there. There was a certain stench in the air that might come from the river next to it or from the air-cond. vent. I was sick aftet staying here due to back ventilation. The bed sheets didn't smell fresh & frail. About time they change those bed linens.

The Air conditioning did not function well. According to the staff, the AC was broke down. And the counter only told me when I arrived at the counter that late evening on the 9Feb2025. And because I already book my second trip at the same hotel from 12-14 Feb 2025, i tried to cancel thru Booking.com but failed. And when I arrived at the hotel counter on the 12 Feb 2025, the AC still not working well. I travel with my son n he couldn’t sleep well because the warm room conditions

The hotel was obviously lovely in it's day with a big reception and sweeping staircase. I'm sure it was a lovely place to stay, before it was allowed fall behind the times.

The reception was dark at the top of the stairs and uninviting, we tripped over the loose carpet as we got into the lift, the bathroom was grubby and the bath stained and in the room itself, furniture was threadbare and worn out. We hardly noticed any other guests, it was very uninspiring. we decided immediately that we could not spend any time there and booked straight out. The Desk Clerk was very nice and helpful but said he was unable to give us a refund, we would have to apply to Booking.Com for that, but the website has no such facility to assist dissatisfied customers. The only point of contact is the Press Office, so I wrote and advised of the situation, unsurprisingly - no reply whatsoever. All other hotels have been very good and we have been very happy, but this experience and the lack of customer support from Booking.Com has soured the experience.
