Authentic Onsen hotel with your own Onsen bath on your balcony. The hotel staff very friendly and good English skills

Understated Japanese luxury hotel but not in the fashion of US or Middle Eastern hotels. Simple, thoughtful, excellent service from taking your shoes at the front door to private onsen to bath in. Super friendly staff and amazing service.

I forgot to book our dinners and breakfast. Were we able to get one breakfast in which was very Japanese, extensive and amazing quality. The problem is that if you cannot have dinner and it's raining like no tomorrow outside, it's very hard to go back to town with the shuttle and search for a restaurant. So not really a negative but note to self to include dinner and breakfast.

Das essen ist für Europäer sehr gewöhnungsbedürftig. Man sollte sich darauf einstellen.

- Very nice atmosphere, partially because of the architecture - Staff were very attentive - Food was tasty and varied - Baths were the perfect temperature and left skin feeling smooth, with wide variety of skin products available in public baths - Enjoyed the wide variety of yukata available to borrow - Whole beans and coffee grinder were a nice touch

- Weren’t told that there was a shuttle bus up from the bus terminal and so spent half an hour pushing suitcases up and down slopes (it’s deceptively hard to get to!) - Only alternative dining option is a low-allergen course - my companion is pescetarian, and yet lamb and duck appeared. I would appreciate if a vegetarian/vegan menu was also available, especially given the potential for Muslim/Jewish guests as well - There didn’t seem to be soap or skin products outside the private outdoor baths like there were outside the public baths, so it seems the expectation is to shower in your room and head out to the outdoor baths, or not use soap at all, which I found odd?
