Royal Hotel

Keeping in mind the room was only $50 a night and I have had overnight stays in Mt Gambier for the same price, I had an idea of what to expect. The room was basic, just a bed, fan, heater, private sink for brushing teeth etc. Cleanliness was ok, though I did note a tomato sauce packet under the bed and the pillow case wasn't as clean as it could have been. I used a tshirt over the pillow to be safe and slept on top of the sheets. Another thing to consider is the road noise. Now if you don't have earplugs and are a light sleeper you may not have a good sleep - I was here due to last minute change of plans and did not bring ear plugs. Seems every second car that went past the night of my stay was clapped out with bogan loud exhaust systems, I did hear some screeching too.. Just hoons being hoons on the eve of a public holiday. If you can deal with this or are a heavy sleeper then you probably will sleep alright. This is out of control of the hotel management so it is not their fault. It is on a main road so you will get that noise. Another guest had a TV going all night which I could hear through my door - another precaution to bring good ear plugs. The cleanliness of the shared showers was average. All in all not much out of the ordinary for a $50 a night room as a last minute booking due to some unforeseen circumstances.
