"Not great, but hopefully only the ownership transition phase!"

5.0

The location was amazing! The pub looked fabulous too - but it was in between owners and not fully open. Our room was big and well decorated and had a lovely big bathroom. We were pleased the new owner honoured our booking - especially as he hadn't been passed our payment which had already gone to the old owners!

The new owner had only recently taken over and it was all a bit disorganised. Only the double bed was made up, not the two single beds, so we had to ask for the bedding for our children, which was left in a bin liner outside the back door of the pub when we got back from going out for dinner. The restaurant wasn't open yet, which we were warned about but we were told we could get breakfast but that never materialised either, so we had to go out for breakfast which was annoying as we had paid to have it included. The owner wasn't on site and there was no mobile number so when we arrived no one was there to greet us with a key or anything. We had to wait outside for half an hour when he luckily turned up. We met the new chef who sounded like he knew what he was doing, so hopefully one day this pub will become a great destination once again!

The location for us was perfect, within walking distance of our friends house.

We found it quite strange that full enlish breakfast wasn't included on both mornings of our stay

"Good enough for a one night stay / lay over. For longer, wait for a refurb and restaurant open."

6.0

Unfortunately the restaurant is not open. The manager said that they had only just taken over the establishment and they were having problems with the oven which was a disappointment. So arriving in the afternoon we had a coffee in the room and then went to Tavistock where there is plenty of choice, would've loved to have kept it local though. Would be good if this was updated on the website, but I guess they want the accommodation trade.. Eating in Tavistock saved the evening and then when we got back, the room was warm and there was plenty of space in our quad room and we slept well. The view from the window was of the picturesque bridge and river with a lovely valley scene of cottages and church.

Although it is good to have a break from TV especially when you are on holiday and want to check out the local area, I feel the room lacked some basic amenities. It would have been nice to have had a TV in the room for a bit of viewing at the end of the evening. There could also have been a desk or small table and chairs. There was little atmosphere in the apartment, no cosiness. Probably a good place currently for passing tradespeople looking for a handy lay over, but not yet cosy enough for a family. Then there was the room colour, a rather sallow yellow and then a bathroom with stark yellow tiles. Neutralising the walls and bathroom and adding highlights with cosy cushions and bedding would do wonders here but they have only just taken over as they informed us.

"Property was closed"

1.0

The Leaping Salmon was closed and we were told had been since the beginning of September but our booking was accepted on 15 September. We were told we could have a room but no food as no chef. Room was cold and felt damp. We decided not to stay and left. Have told Booking.com but no response from them

"Clean but disappointing that none of the facilities for food and drink were open."

5.0

Room was recently done up and clean. Nice location.

Part of the reason for booking was the full breakfast and good food reviews generally. The new owner phone me up 3 hours before our arrival to say he’d just bought it and had no chef so he’d give us a continental breakfast (2 pastries I a box). Needless to say pub and kitchen weren’t open either. I don’t know why he was taking bookings when still lots to do with the accommodation.

Nice shower, lots of space, window seat good, clean bedding and towels.

New owners taken over the day before and the place was clearly not ready to open. Hopefully will improve in the future, not a great experience for us on this occasion and full price charged.
