Please note that taxi fares to and from Stansted Airport are GBP 25 for 1 way and GBP 50 for a return journey. The hotel recommends that dinner reservations are made before arrival. A limited service operates over Christmas and New Year. The additional cost for children up to 12 years old includes breakfast when sharing a room with their parents. Breakfast is GBP 10 per person if you order it the night before. Breakfast is GBP 19.50 per person when you order it on the same morning. Please note that the property only allows dogs in certain executive rooms. Guests should contact the hotel at the time of booking to arrange their room. Additional charges may apply. I stay here regularly for both work and pleasure. The dog friendly room are great with family backing on to a lovely green for the dog, complete with bowl, treats, dog bed and food. For a business stay i enjoy the bar food, log fire and attentive staff. The buffet breakfast is a treat and let’s mention the setting - stunning. The room are decorated with taste and attention to details. It’s my favorite home away from home

VERY minor point... could do with a water bucket and brush with so much mud in wet weather.

"Great value for money"

We stayed here for a few nights for a half-term family break and were very impressed with the value for money compared to other spa hotels. The building is stunning - both inside and out - and was superbly maintained. So many "stately home" period hotels are a bit worn around the edges, but not this one. Staffing levels were also really good, staff were friendly and helpful, and there were some nice touches like turn-down with gifts for the children. Be warned that at the moment there are some pretty extensive groundworks going on, with contractors and machinery and it is also worth knowing that the hotel allows dogs - we were not overly thrilled with yapping dogs in the room next door. It is a shame that for a hotel of this size there is no pool, and the gym, sauna and steam room are very small. But again, for the price-point it is not a complaint, just something to be aware of. The tennis and padel court which are free to guests are in good condition and a real plus. And the grounds seemed very well maintained. In the Spring / Summer I imagine they would be a wonderful space to explore. Not so much in February.
