La Mariposa Hotel

Check in process was very smooth and the staff very helpful. The room was clean, private, and had an amazing view with a very comfortable bed. The restaurant, pool, etc. are really top-tier in the service at the restaurant was perfect. I’d book it again!

Dislike that was far from the beach, but transportation is provided daily at scheduled pickups and drop offs.

An incredible place, spectacular views, excellent food, and the friendliness of all the staff. The hotel is in a privileged location, spacious rooms, a beautiful place surrounded by vegetation and wildlife.

We spent 5 nights at La Mariposa. It was truly wonderful. We relaxed by the pool, with great service and enjoyed seeing monkeys, a toucan, a sloth, agouti’s and macaws, all in the hotel’s grounds. We ate in the restaurant for one night, which was wonderful, as were all the meals and were exceptionally sad to leave.

This property has a amazing view, beautiful pools, including an infinity pool, wildlife on the property… We saw so many slots and monkeys that we didn’t even go on the nature walk and pay the guide. The breakfast is very good and the food in the restaurant is very good as well. Book early to get a nice view on the patio deck if you’re going to reserve a dinner. The rooms have large balconies, which is the reason to stay there, but the decor is basic at best. Our bathroom was very unimpressive in the sink broke several times while we were there. We kept being told that our room would be changed, but they cannot be bothered And never changed it in the five nights we were there. The negative we experienced at this property was with our room. Please be warned… If you are in a sunrise few room, please ask for a high room. I know this sounds opposite, but if you have a low room, you will have many many stairs to go up and down and they are very slippery and dangerous and the hotel does not offer help with your bags. We were two women, with large bags, and shoes that could cause us to fall on slippery stairs. We were literally afraid for our life going up and down the stairs daily because of all the rain. We stayed for almost a week and asked several times to change our room. Every time we were told they would try to change our room, we saw new arrivals checking into the top floor that does not require stairs and so obviously, they did not want to bother with changing our room. It was very, very disappointing. Additionally, our keys did not work several times, and my friend was not allowed entry into the room once, but rather treat it like a criminal trying to break into our room. And the staff overcharged for several items (be aware of the welcome drinks… They are not free lol) and in the end, harassed us about our bill on the way to the airport, even though we paid in full the night before. It turned out it was their mistake all along. The moral of the story is that this hotel is very nice as far as amenities go, but beware of all the extra charges, and ask for a high floor. We did not have a good experience with the front desk staff or our room.

Had a lovely week at La Mariposa. Beautiful scenery, and wonderful, caring staff. We even saw a momma sloth and her baby climbing the ceiling and tree near the lobby! Food was excellent. Shuttle to the beach worked out fine. I highly recommend La Mariposa

Wonderful view

We had such a lovely meal while in town! We were not staying here but the appeal was too hard not to resist and we are so glad we walked in the door! It was early afternoon and we needed a break from the heat and as soon as you walk in you are greeted warmly and the breeze from the ocean is magnificent. The staff was attentive and smiling. Margaly was our waitress and she was friendly, efficient and even took a picture for us. The food was perfect, both amount and taste. Wonderful drinks to sip while taking in the views. Highly recommend!

As others have said, the views from La Mariposa can’t be topped. The staff at the front desk was absolutely lovely to speak to and they answered all my questions. They also did not judge me on my very basic Spanish (and even taught my more fluent spouse a bit of “Costa Rican Spanish” when he was using slightly different words for things like towels). When it was raining, we could ask the front desk workers for umbrellas and they provided them for us. One day we accidentally brought back much more sand from the beach than we realized, and it was all over our floor and shower after taking off sandals and bathing suits and rinsing off. Just a quick stop at the front desk and housekeeping was at our room to clean it up quickly. The location of the hotel was great. We were able to walk to several restaurants for dinner during our stay (Emilio’s was our favorite and just down the street). The shuttle to the beach was very convenient and the driver dropped us off at the public beach and introduced us to Angelina who we could pay for chairs and umbrellas. Her prices were very reasonable and my son even took a surf lesson from one of her guys. We had a premiere ocean view room, which was next to the main building. We barely heard our neighbors on the other side of the shared wall. The only complaint we had about the hotel (which honestly can be said for many places) is that the style of roof does nothing to mask the sound of the rain. We were all kept awake one night as a major thunderstorm rolled through. And one afternoon it poured for several hours (of course when we had no plans except to go to the pool!) and you could hear every rain drop echoing throughout our room. We really enjoyed our stay at La Mariposa and are very happy that we chose this hotel.
