Far away for the center and tourist stuff

I work in the Springfield area and decided to stay at Holiday Inn Express on Dirksen Parkway. I would say the hotel is average for the price and amenities. Front desk staff Anthony was very pleasant and helpful. The room was clean. The bed was queen size and they use mattress covers which is a bonus. I am extremely picky and double check everything because of another hotel experience locally. There is a small refrigerator and microwave in the room for heating food and keeping your drinks cold. Refrigerator coffee maker for coffee and tea. Helpful tip - stay toward the front of the hotel. There is a lot of noise from the highway which is close. My only issue with my room was the bathtub took forever to drain. It filled up while I was showering and was really slow to drain. Breakfast is provided in the cost. A wide variety of items - scrambled eggs, egg white omlette, bacon, sausage, toast, bagels, and pastries. Several kinds of yogurts as well. Overall a good value for the money.

Hotel is very dated. Hallway and room not clean and not maintained. Elevator very dirty, and the front desk staff didn’t seem concerned if we enjoyed our stay. Had to navigate around the many laundry carts and staff to get on/off the elevator going to the front desk. We actually thought we were in the basement. Fire alarm went off late one night and no one from the front desk came outside to tell us anything, the firemen finally said it was ok to go in. Bacon was barely cooked, eggs were very watery and no one cleaned the tables after people finished eating.
