too much of everything (you even get roses when checking in!)

During our trip through South America this was by far the worst hotel we stayed in. However, I will start this review with the positives. Marco Guevara in the restaurant was superb (special thank you for the birthday cake), as were Joshua, Abraham and Xavier. The room was adequate but there is no towel rail for the hand towel and the bath plug did not seal. In addition the safe door opens in the wrong direction. On our last evening we ate at Raices restaurant. The soup was cold and had to be reheated. The sparkling water was warm. The turkey was pink and undercooked. The restaurant staff argued that it was cooked and it was only pink because of the seasoning. I asked for it to be cooked more but this was not possible. I did not eat the meat and after several members of staff had visited our table an offer was made to cook the turkey more. This was too little too late. I was then offered a plate of chips. We asked for decaffeinated coffee but it was only powder and not filtered. However, in your bedroom you can have decaffeinated filter coffee! Not sure why they cannot have a machine in the restaurant that provides the same coffee. Really not impressed with the service in this restaurant.

We stayed at the Marriott. I did find Caroline at the front desk helpful as well as the doorman. The staff is generally nice. It could be any other city in the world and a typical Marriott.The door handles came off when we opened the closet. The rod to pull the curtains shut came off. Turndown service came at 5 pm when we weren't ready to leave the room. We called the front desk on the room phone and got some odd bot answering and couldn't connect. There is not place to hang a hang towel near the sink in the bathroom when you want to dry your hands. We didn't like the maids moving our things around. They shouldn't touch things on our desk, counters, etc. as we left them plenty of room to clean and don't like our things moved around. We put them in a place for a reason. This is not the nicest hotel in town, but it is acceptable. Not like the JW Mariott in Cusco or Inka Del Tambo which are also Marriott properties that are much nicer.

We recently had the pleasure of staying at the JW Marriott in Ecuador, and from the moment we arrived, the experience was exceptional. After a long day of travel and multiple delays coming from the United States, we arrived tired and worn down. That quickly changed thanks to the incredible welcome from the team. The bellhop staff greeted us professionally and escorted us to the front desk, where Ysabel immediately stood out. Her warm smile and genuine kindness made us feel at home right away, and the thoughtful gesture of presenting my wife with a beautiful Ecuadorian rose was something we will not forget. During our stay, we also had the opportunity to meet Stephany and Daniela, and it was a true pleasure connecting with the leadership behind such a well-run and beautiful hotel. Their hospitality, along with the thoughtful gifts they provided, made our experience even more memorable. The service throughout the property was consistently outstanding. Isaac and Jenny took excellent care of us in the executive lounge, and the breakfast team was welcoming and attentive each morning. Henry’s omelets were a highlight and something we looked forward to daily. We were equally impressed with the overall quality of the hotel. The gym is outstanding, with a wide range of updated equipment that exceeded our expectations. Room service was prompt and delicious, and every aspect of the property reflected attention to detail and pride in the guest experience. One evening, we followed Stephany and Daniela’s recommendation to dine at Raíces, and it was one of the best meals we have had. The octopus and shrimp appetizers were exceptional in both flavor and presentation. We also had the pleasure of meeting Chef Patricio, who was gracious and clearly passionate about his craft. As full-time travelers and owners of a U.S.-based travel company, we spend the majority of the year visiting hotels around the world. While we often stay within the Marriott portfolio, this JW Marriott truly stands out as one of the best we have experienced. The combination of a beautiful property and a team that genuinely understands hospitality makes this a place we will confidently recommend to our clients. Although we are continuing our travels within Ecuador, including the Amazon and the Galápagos, we will be returning to this property multiple times during our trip. It already feels like our home base in Ecuador. Thank you to Ysabel, Stephany, Daniela, Isaac, Henry, Chef Patricio, and the entire team for creating such a welcoming and memorable experience.
