"Great stay thank you! Just change the check out time to 10am!"

9.0

Characterful cottage with 2 good sized bedrooms and bathrooms. Great kitchen and large dining table.

Check out time before 9am! A little bit early?! Info sheet in cottage mentioned 10am so we were surprised when cleaner turned up and was a bit rude about getting out by 9am! Car parking spot around the back of cottage was challenging to get into and even harder to get out of so having managed to just avoid scraping our car on the way out we decided to use National Trust car park in the village not far away.

"Excellent location and lovely log burner"

7.0

Location was great, log burner wonderful, pub next door had great food, property was nice and clean and had everything we needed.

It's an old cottage which is totally fine but not recommended for anyone who is not super steady on their feet - very steep stairs, furniture downstairs maybe a little dated, but lovely, cosy cottage.

"A perfect and characterful cottage in a stunning location."

10.0

We loved staying at Rose cottage and will be back. The cottage was warm and cosy, we loved having the open fire. The décor was tasteful and stylish throughout. The kitchen was fully stocked with all the utensils we needed. Elterwater was stunning, with excellent walks, beautiful scenery and a superb pub when you don't want to cook. A real hidden Gem!

Make sure you bring your own fuel for the fire, or purchase from the local shop. We think there is an option of a fire pack on arrival but we didn't see this in the booking details/options. Maybe make this more explicit as an option. Access to the parking space was quite tight, but it does have a place to park. There are alternative places to park in the village.

"Adequate but gloomy in quiet country location"

6.0

Best part of our stay was that there was a very nice pub next door to the cottage. The staff were very friendly and the food was good.

On the whole very dark and gloomy - some better light bulbs may help. So dark difficult to see in mirrors even with lights on. The stairs are extremely steep so could be dangerous but do realise the property was built in 1850 so have to accept quirkiness. The ground floor bedroom involves two steps and extremely dark as overlooks pub car park and glass is frosted for privacy. Decor dark and also used as storage space for dining chairs and a spare plug in radiator. Furniture in the ground floor bedroom had drawer handles missing, no wardrobe just hooks with hangers on wall. Photos on property description only show main bedroom - which is the lightest and largest. There are also small steps to the bathroom. Property suits younger people with no mobility issues.
