Hotel Buenavista Bacalar Jungle Experience

Nice quiet place

I’m really glad we made a trip down to Bacalar lagoon and Buenavista during our 2 week trip to Mexico. It was great to be somewhere less touristy and developed than Tulum up the coast. The hotel is pretty remote, we had to get the bus to Bacalar and then a taxi. A car would have been better. Buenavista itself is a sleepy, authentic village. Don’t expect loads of eating options, you’re very limited but there are a couple of very local places (in houses) where you can eat. The food at the hotel is pretty bland but fine. The lagoon is beautiful and there’s easy access to it from the hotel. Rooftop yoga in the morning overlooking the jungle was a really nice added benefit. The rooms are rustic, and the bathrooms basic, and the area has a lot of mosquitoes. Overall a great place to spend a couple of days doing nothing, relaxing, reading, swimming.

We booked 4 nights in this hotel with a room like all, with the view of the pool (as pictured .. false of course). So we arrive and we are given a room very far from the pool but in addition to that, above the kitchen and parking. So we had noise until midnight in the evening and the next morning at 6:50 in the morning, people leaving to do activities and having a little breakfast. This is quite normal except that the rooms being open on the outside with some place only mosquito nets we heard everything and therefore it was impossible to sleep. After 1 awful night we woke up and most electricity in the room for several hours. We decided to leave the hotel and after several requests from the hotel, we are still told that the right room has been allocated to us and that they will not make any refund. To flee absolutely unless already insomiac .....

EXCEPTIONAL

After reading some negative reviews I still took the chance on this property and was so glad I did. It was exactly what the Doctor ordered: Quiet, serene, eco-friendly and the swim in lagoon was awesome followed by a nice dinner and a relaxing night. The staff including the Manager were Great. Caveat: This property is in Buena Vista which is in the state of Bacalar; but is not in Bacalar. It is almost 20 miles away from actual Bacalar, Bacalar.

This hotel is not in Bacalar town, is 20 min away, in the middle of no where, there is no restaurants, or anything around, the food in the hotel restaurant is expensive and is very very bad, the property is nice but so many mosquitos you cant be out side! The taxy from Bacalar to this hotel cost 300 pesos every time! So is inconvenient place, plus no air conditioner, the mosquitos at night will eat you! The staff is the only good thing! And the lagoon is 7 min walking, but the Lagoon in Bacalar is prettier.

This is a hidden gem with a relaxing environment. Excellent customer service and outstanding breakfast (international cook). We were delighted to participate in a free yoga class and have access to the club house where we kayaked the lagoon. All for free or part of the amenities. It is worth every penny.

DO NOT BOOK THIS PLACE. YOU WILL BE SORRY IF YOU DO! This property is a total rip off. Do not stay here you will be disappointed. NO WATER ON PROPERTY, NO AIR CONDITIONING, NO TELEVISION, IN MIDDLE OF NO WHERE, STAY AWAY, CON ARTISTS.....I went there for 10 minutes and after getting lost because the directions were off the grid. It is not even in Bacalar. The management and owner are complete false advertisers. It is not on the water, Property has no luxuries, it is 30 minutes from Bacalar and is very hard to find. They stole my money as I was there for 10 minutes and they refused to give me my money back. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE! IT IS A RIP OFF AND THEY ARE RUTHLESS ABOUT IT!

From the minute you walk in you feel like you have left your old life behind and the feeling of peace and tranquility takes over every cell in your being. It’s truly magnificent. Every detail was carefully thought out and it’s a wonderful piece of heaven. Connecting to nature is so important and this is the place to do it. The food is amazing , the rooms are very comfortable and beautiful and Miguel and his team are so accommodating and thoughtful. My mother and aunt loved every second of it. We can’t wait to go back.
