I Live in Germany, It was unfortunate that I had to stay at the Griffin Inn, (5 nights) I needed to attend a Family Funeral in St Helens. So I flew to Manchester and arrived at the Hotel after Ten in the evening, I was concerned that there would be no reception and I would have problems booking in. That was not the case, I walked into the bar and asked a young man who I could see about booking in, two minutes later he came with my room key, didn't just give it to me, but took me to my room, then asked if I needed anything. I had a nice clean single room, with adjoining toilet & shower. Bath towels and hand towels, and shower floor mats. Hand and body soaps in dispensers on the sink and in the shower. There was a bottle of water, a kettle for hot drinks, tea ,coffee, hot chocolate, Horlicks, which I haven't had in years, Milk and sugar. and even a small packet of bourbon biscuits. An iron, and ironing board, and a hair dryer, Flat screen Tv. Being January the room was lovely and warm, it was a quiet room, and had Blinds and curtains, I like to sleep in the dark. Each day there was new clean towels, the drinks were replenished and on two more occasions I was left new biscuits. And what I found really nice I could sleep long and was never disturbed, although when ever I bumped into any of the staff, I was asked if there was anything I needed, did my room need cleaning. I only ate in the hotel bar once, Fish and chips and good old mushy Peas, it came quickly and was piping hot and it was delicious, a pint of Guinness washed it down. There are numerous large screen tv's in the bar, its very comfortable, and the bar staff are friendly and efficient. The whole place has the feel of a nice friendly family atmosphere. Ok I hear you say "Come-on there's always something that's out of place or annoying, "But if I have to write something negative OK, the fire alarm sounded twice, and both times late at night. But I cant really call that negative can I, that's in place to keep me safe; isn't it? I highly recommend the Griffin Inn at Eccleston, If I need to stay in St Helens again......It will be there.
