King Solomon Hotel

Love the simple quirkiness of the hotel. I hope it stays the way it is and maintains its character. Small suggestions to bring it up to aexpectations: employ a plumber to fix drips; change batteries in all appliances regularly

Although the staff were very nice and helpful, the hotel looks nothing like many of the photos posted online and the rooms, infrastructure, and furnishings are all old and worn out when they're available. A bunch of friends and I stayed at King Solomon, so we were able to compare rooms. Most of the rooms at King Solomon have very limited furnishings that included only a bed and a night stand. All of the rooms had some combination of missing furniture and typical room amenities and/or things that were not working. I switched rooms because the air conditioner didn't work and one of my friends changed rooms because none of the lights would turn on in her room. The TVs and cable in most of the rooms didn't work. The bathrooms that were not recently updated which is most, were dirty and worn. Dripping showers were an issue for many that kept them up. Things missing in rooms included toilet paper holders. soap dishes in the showers, mirrors of any kind, closets or drawers to put clothes, towels, and some times room keys (which we had to pick up after they had cut some new ones at the hardware store). The website also doesn't tell you that most of the hotel and rooms are built on a hillside which are only accessible by confusing stairs and a funicular when it was working. To add to it all, a good portion of the hotel was being renovated during our stay including around the pool area which prevented us from using the pool. For $110/night before taxes, not worth it.

The rooms are clean and enjoyed hot water for a shower. Walking distance from the wharf and cafes. The hotel needs maintenance- our toilet seat was broken. The cable car also needs the control buttons inside the car serviced.

Although the staff were very nice and tried their best, the hotel is much older than the photos show and the rooms all have issues from appliances that don't work, power issues in the rooms, dripping shower faucets, old furniture and appliances, air conditioners that don't work, and just a lack of basic furniture and other amenities in the rooms. A bunch of friends and I all stayed at this hotel, so we were able to compare rooms. Many did not having working tvs or cable, some rooms had no furniture other than a bed and night table, and several rooms lacked basic things in the bathroom like a toilet paper holder, a soap dish in the shower, and a mirror in the room anywhere. Also, the rooms are on a hillside any many are only accessible by either a long climb on a confusing stairway or a funicular that malfunctioned often.

First impressions during the day were good, friendly but uninformative staff checked me in and place looked clean/nice enough. Funicular to the room was novel to begin with, but later became a pain, being super slow, often not stopping at the correct levels or having to go to the top to then have to come down. You'll end up using the stairs alot - so I don't recommend this hotel for people with mobility issues. Room was nice and big, unexpectedly had a fully equipped kitchen and was clean with clean linen/towels. Bed was extremely comfy. As with most of Honiara no hot water... which wasn't great after days on the ocean. Restaurant had ok food, mostly Western dishes, not much local cuisine. And while it was friendly, definitely on Island time and super slow. The culture dance on Friday night was good while eating dinner. Third complaint was the 'nightclub' on Friday night the restaurant turns into. It was so loud my windows were shaking. I went down at midnight to complain and nothing was done. It also wasn't very family friendly with lots of overly intoxicated people hanging around and yelling - as a single female I felt a little unsafe. Reception said there would be no music on Saturday and I went back upstairs. I was really annoyed when their was music on Saturday and it went until midnight. I changed rooms to a higher floor after being laughed at and it was slightly better. No offer of a discount for the room considering I had no sleep for 2 nights. Lots of construction around the place such as hand rails and the wooden flooring. Made for a noisy/ dusty place during the day also and the pool area undergoing works wasn't really a place for relaxation. Pool area quite run down compared to photo. Pretty disappointed for the money this place charges. Pay just that little bit more and go elsewhere.

The build is not too bad, the lift is very interesting and the pool was nice. Would I ever be back here? No! If you want to be robbed this is the place, money and clothes disappear from my room. I am soo angry with myself for trust this place!

Stayed at this hotel for 6 nights and unless you have tons of patience, I’d not recommend this hotel. Whilst the staff are friendly, there’s a lot lost in translation. My room wasn’t cleaned for about two days despite asking and reminding. The views are great if you are staying on the top floor/rooms but beware the funicular can take a while and one set of buttons doesn’t work. The pizzas are great here but the menu is quite limited. Also there’s always loud music on Fridays to Saturdays that starts at 5.30pm and ends at 2am and it’s extremely loud.

Best Place to be in Honiara!everything you need just in a walking Distance!even though the Place is just a basic!the lovely staffs & location makes it perfect! Mostly Recommended it to anyone whom wish to visit or stay over for travel purposes! A+++++++++++++++from me!

Conviently located, spacious rooms and worth the price, the only downside was that hotel guests and party goers use the same entrance especially when a party or entertainment is on - fridays and saturdays.
