Salka suites

Very comfortable and well equipped apartment in a secure block of flats. Good location, neighbourhood was in a quiet area but within walking distance of central Reykjavik.

Safe was locked (or broken?) with no instructions on how to activate. Advertised as having parking which we had assumed was free but you have to pay and it's quite expensive. This should be highlighted up front. However, you can park in nearby residential streets for free. Also, we expected signage to direct us to Salka Suites but there isn't any, so initially we had an issue finding the apartment.

It was good to have an information folder but it needs updating Folder said to message host if more toilet paper etc was needed but when we asked we were told we would have to buy more Listing said toiletries included but there was only hand soap

It would have been good to have some basics such as salt and pepper.

The location was good. Check in was a breeze. The kitchen had enough plates and utensils for a group of 5. It was tastefully decorated and convenient in and out. The host was responsive as well. It is more like and apartment for a family of three.

The apartment was not clean. I had to clean the floors and rewash the towels. I am not sure if the cleaners really clean. There was an empty chip bag under one bed and an old dirty sock under another. Many disgusting stains. Some on the mattress pad which was not nice. I have pictures to send to host and post. We had to take our own trash out because we did not want the apartment or hallway smelling after 2 days. When I booked this reservation we understood our rental car had parking. That is not the case. You have to pay for parking. Also, bring toilet paper if you and your family of 5 use more than one roll and a half in 5 days - I had had the last of it after I contacted the host to ask where the toilet paper was. We had to buy more. I could not believe we were making a grocery store run for toilet paper after I had paid for my stay there.

The "booklets" in the apartment have information that is contradictory to other information they give (e.g., the WiFi info in the booklet is wrong, while it correct info is posted on the wall). The entrance is not obvious from the street where you park (for a fee, like everywhere else in town). It would help to have a picture or two from a street view so you can see where the door is (before you park). I sent quite a few emails before our trip, but never got a response. It seems like a phone call is the only way to get an answer.

Apartment was great, location was great, bus stop 12 was right outside for pickup to excursions. Only took 5 minutes to walk to Laugaveugar that's full of restaurants and shops. We even walked to the BSI bus station in less than 20 minutes.

A shelf or caddy in the shower, we also ended up having to buy more toilet paper, and there were no tissue in the bathroom or paper towels in the kitchen. And there was no way to take out the trash, you needed some sort of keycard to access the trash bins. We also couldn't access the small safe in the apartment.
