Hampton Inn Muskegon

Parking lot not cleared and very slippery with snow and slush. First room we checked into had a broken HVAC unit, so I had us moved to another room. Second room, bathroom was not clean - sticky floor and un-flushed toilet (ver surprising). Shower head was loose from the wall. Just made me feel like the hotel needs some maintenance / upgrades. Let me say that the staff was very friendly and professional, so no issue at all with them.

The reviews to stay away are true. We survived but I wish we had stayed elsewhere. I saw reviews saying breakfast staff was rude and thought it was a fluke. It was totally true. An hour before breakfast was over they stopped refreshing items and had an attitude when we asked for things like oatmeal. “We didn’t get eggs this week” so there was only toast and hashbrowns. We had to return about two weeks later and the same thing happened: empty food trays and hour before breakfast ends. Unfortunately this is probably the best chain in the area near summer camps and the amusement park. The only upside was tons of counter space in the bathroom. There were also paper products available at the front desk if you brought in food. This summer we are looking to stay somewhere else.

The issues were the cleanliness of the rooms at the hotel. The first room I went to, the toilet was not flushed with toilet paper and had urine in it and there were crumbs all around the desk on the floor. The second room, had hair in the shower and the pillows on the bed were not nicely set. (As if someone laid down on them and got up). The last room I went to, the locked in shampoo and conditioner bottles were completely gone from their place with the locks opened. The cleanliness of the last room was far better than the prior rooms and with the late hour (11:25pm) I decided to stay and get some rest. The front desk staff, Shalyn, was amazing and very apologetic and frustrated with the lack of cleanliness of the rooms she was having me go to. She was very accommodating even with the frustration of the evening. The housekeeping either needs to have more training on how to clean, or a “clean sweep” of staff. After traveling for two hours, moving to three unclean rooms, and still have issues is unacceptable- especially for the price I paid. I haven’t had issues before so it’s definitely making me reconsider staying at this location again.

I personally think that my room may not have been used right before my stay as it was not very clean. My suggestion would be if it wasn't perhaps the cleaning staff should inspect each room. There was stuff on the floor and food on the bathroom floor. The community bathroom by the pool was not properly stocked as it was out of toilet paper when we arrived. My room was not equipped with any blankets for the pull out sofa bed. I personally have been coming to this location for a number of years on New Years Eve and my suggestion is for the price we pay to stay you need to start updating some of your rooms, pillows and common areas. Things are starting to look real run down. I would like to mention that the 2 gals I came in contact with that was working the front desk were both very nice and accommodating!
