"Delightful stay with wonderful hosts"

10.0

We spent 2 nights here on a whiskey journey. As an inexperienced travel planner relying on public transport on a first trip to Scotland - I have to express infinite gratitude to Niall for going “over and above” to provide advice and help with logistics I didn’t know about. This was in addition to the spotless, comfortable, friendly and welcoming lodging he and his family provided. We loved our room and the yummy, generous breakfasts. Being a fan of traditional American folk music - it was a real treat to hear Niall and friends perform Scottish music one night at the hotel bar across the street. We only visited half of the distilleries, and more are opening - so we hope to visit Islay again. We will definitely plan to stay at The Trout Fly Guest House - and will stay longer (and Niall, I promise to do a better job - ourselves - of arranging our island transportation! )

"A perfect B&B in a lovely spot"

10.0

Spent 4 nights at the Trout Fly and absolutely loved it - friendly, helpful and knowledgeable hosts, a really comfy room, great breakfasts and a perfect location about 50m from the bus stops and a 5 minute walk to the pub and the ferry terminal. We used the guest house as a base for exploring the island by bus and it worked really well for us.

"6 guys on a whiskey trip on islay. "

10.0

Perfect stay in the trout fly. The host was very friendly, we immediately felt at home. We could use the common room at any time, which led to very nice and fun evenings with the host family. The rooms were clean, sufficiently large and warm and cosy very quickly despite the cold weather.

"Cozy and accommodating"

10.0

The rooms are cozy, clean, and very atmospheric. The guest rooms are named after four of the big distilleries on Islay, which is then also used as place markers for the breakfast. The rooms are decorated with pictures and a cask lid of the same distillery. The whole concept is very charming and executed rather well. The breakfast is, as far as I can tell, a classic Scottish one, homemade and delicious. One of the owners, Niall, even went out of his way to prepare a vegetarian variant, which is highly appreciated! He was always a delight to talk to, welcomed us warmly when we arrived and gave us recommendations for traveling on Islay. The owners made us feel welcome and appreciated at all times, and they were accommodating our needs beyond our expectations. We can highly recommend this guest house.

"Best Guest House on Islay"

10.0

My friend and I waited 3 years to fulfil our trip to Islay because of Covid and when we did, it was definitely worth the wait. The owners of this guest house (Niall and Linda) made our 4 night stay on the island very special. The accommodation was excellent, the breakfasts were excellent and the hospitality and customer service was also excellent. I wouldn't hesitate to return to the same guest house again. Thank you for a lovely stay.

"Excellent stay"

10.0

Our host Niall was very friendly and made us feel right at home. We received an email before we arrived with lots of very useful tips that were a great help. Really liked the Whisky theme, and room was very good. Breakfast was a great start to the day. Would definitely stay here again next time in Islay!

"Awesome Port Ellen B&B"

10.0

Had a 2 night stay while we were visiting Islay. Niall and Linda were fabulous hosts! Niall's breakfasts were the best part of a wonderful stay. They both had so many helpful tips about things to do on the island. Our room had everything we needed and each day there was 2 amazing homemade shortbread cookies with our coffee and tea basket. We will certainly make sure we stay here again if we are lucky enough to return!!!Thanks for a wonderful stay!! TIM AND MICHELE

"nothing too much trouble"

10.0

Small homely B&B. Only 4 rooms 3 ensuite. Basic and comfortable. Breakfast superb. Host couldn't do enough, nothing was too much trouble he would even act as a shuttle service if needs be. Paring outside on Main Street stone throw from a very good hotel restaurant

"Our second stay was as enjoyable and warm as the first!"

10.0

We stayed with Niall and Linda for the first time and 2018 and couldn't wait to spend time with them again. But thanks to COVID, wait we did and we finally able to return 4 years later. Niall and Linda are so friendly and welcoming that it feels more like spending time with family than it does with a business. The rooms were very comfortable and accommodating with easy parking in front and a short walk down the street to Islay Hotel for dinner and drinks. Breakfast with Niall is quite a treat as I love the Laphroaig waffles with poached eggs. Our traveling companions had the waffles with fruit and the plates emptied quickly to say the least. Niall is also very entertaining and amazingly talented on the accordion. A little coaxing and if your lucky, he might treat you with some tunes. I look forward to returning to Islay again and will always make every attempt to schedule or visit based on availability of the Trout Fly Inn and the great hospitality of Niall and Linda!
