"Sadly not 5* anymore"

We’ve been to this hotel before but sadly we will not return as there are better 5* options. Initially it looked like lots of options at breakfast but the quality was poor and was more like school dinners The Coffee was so awful (worst I’ve ever tasted) we bought ours at Cappuccino just outside the hotel every day. Our room sort of smoke which is not nice! The pool towel/bed guys worked hard and were attentive but the pool waiters were never around and hard to get a drink. If u want a real 5 * breakfast try la Zambra in mijas

A well-run hotel with attentive staff. There was evidence that the impending closure is having an effect on staff and the hotel infrastructure e.g. in our room, the air-con needed fixing and a rather grimy looking floor in the room. We experience air ventilation problems, our room smelled of tobacco smoke whenever someone started smoking even though our windows and door were closed. The room was a good size but needs more storage space for clothes - especially if you are staying a week or longer. Nice pool area with plenty of beds and towels available. Breakfasts were OK - we have had better variety at other top range hotels. Trying to get coffee/tea was at times chaotic and on one occasion, even with the efforts of the hotel manager, we awaited 15 minutes for a pot of tea (a nice note and bottle of wine appeared in our room later in the day as an apology). We also found some items of buffet were empty and took a while to replenish. Room cleaning was unusual. There were three teams involved. (team-1) provide water and clean cups, coffee pods etc (team-2) remove dirty cups, plates etc (team-3) clean room, replace towels etc The problem was that they operated independently, so some days you would come back to a dirty room but with clean and dirty cups still combined. Other days, cups were changed but still no towels etc. One day it was 5pm before the room was cleaned. We expect better from a luxury hotel. There is some "time-share" selling occuring in the hotel (Melia Circle Group) - avoid any invites to drinks. Google and be aware!! There is a back gate to the hotel leading onto the sea-front, which requires your room key. We experienced a nasty incident with some non residents trying to get through the door with us (which we reported to reception). We only saw a member of the hotel "guarding" the door on one evening. Needs improvement.

As always, the staff at the grand Melia Marbela are the most helpful and lovely people to be around your new girl Lucia is so charming and I couldn’t have been more impressed by her wonderful attitude

We have been coming to the hotel now for some 16 years. Sad it is closing for refurb. Albeit much needed and has been for a time ( a running joke I’ve had with Abel for a few years now) but we have continued to visit the hotel due to the staff, facilities and location and food. Many of the staff we have known from our first visit and we have been able to build a relationship with and they are always a welcome face when we return. It’s unfair to thank specific members of the staff as even in these difficult times many of the old school remain along with a good influx of capable new. However many thanks to the continuing commitment of an excellent stalwart for the hotel in Abel whose input has been recognised on every visit by ourselves and family. This chap deserved every success due to his efforts. The pool guys under the leadership of Raff and Raul has also always shown a dedication to please and a welcome part of the experience. Bar and restaurant wise many thanks to Fernado. Cocktail Christine and the team and The Bardot team where many a happy hour has been spent thanks to amongst others Danny, Luis, Laura, Ceaser. The ERRE team also many thanks Basically the welcome starts from arrival and wherever possible remains throughout the stay. Many thanks for 16 great years a although I’m happy the beds are getting a refurb I and the family hope that Don Pepe retains what we come here for after the refurbishment Good luck and see you in 2 years ( sooner if the builders can complete earlier) Mark &Jenny Allen ( and family)

"Loved our stay!"

We just returned from a fantastic 9 night stay at the Hotel Don Pepe - it surpassed our expectations. The number one standout quality of the resort is the staff and the level of service they provide. In particular, Isabel, who is amazing and truly seems to care about the guests and meeting their needs in a proactive way. Our daughter celebrated her birthday while there and Isabel and team couldn't have been more amazing at helping to celebrate her throughout the day - thank you!! All of the staff at the kids club were also fantastic and my daughter had the best time joining in many of the activities. The restaurants in the hotel are also very good. The steaks in Erre were a highlight and the daily buffet breakfast offered a great selection and were consistently kept well stocked. The pool was a delight and we never had issues getting sunloungers thanks to the superb pool concierge team. The only downside of the hotel is the size of the rooms - we had an ocean view room on the 6th floor which was very small for 3 of us. The hotel will also benefit from some TLC in its upcoming renovation but none of this took away from our great experience. All in all we cannot wait to return.
