Aghadoe Heights Hotel & Spa

Spent 1 night with my husband in this hotel. Its situated in the most beautiful setting. The hotel is stunning, room very nice except for the shower, definitely not a 5 star hotel shower in room 315.. It really should be a walk in shower to fit in with standard. We had dinner in the bar which was extremely good.. So the big let down for us both was the breakfast the following morning. We ordered hot food, omelette & pancakes.. We were waiting at least 20/25 minutes for both dishes, had to ask a second time..When they eventually arrived, the server said omelettes take time. The omelette was completely overcooked & the pancakes I received were burnt & inedible. I did say this to one of the servers. At this point we were so long in the breakfast room, I did not want to continue to wait for a replacement. Completely sub standard breakfast for a 5 star hotel. I was left feeling quite disappointed unfortunately..

I visit Aghadoe twice yearly as my Uncle is buried in the cemetery following a car accident in 1983 and I tend his grave as his family is in Carlingford. I have eaten at Aghadoe for years on my visits but I I never stayed. My Uncles daughter died at 21 years having just recieved her compensation from the accident in Killarney in 1983. She is buried in Carlingford with her mother. I booked in to Aghadoe and it was always going to be an emotional journey. Firstly I waited 20 minutes for my room. I was surprised that I had to wait. I have never had to wait for my room previous to this. However sometimes things happen. I must say the staff were fantastic. Very apologetic. I was brought to the lounge to await my room. I have never had to wait for my room anywhere here to fore but I also never had to wait also for 20 minutes for a Cappuccino which I ordered! Management did later ask to pay for the coffee but I had paid on ordering. There was an apology. I didn't mind. The ambience was beautiful with a pianist. For dinner later as I was a solo traveller I asked for a table by the window .. I was told that that window spaces looking onto the lakes were high priority. However the lady assured me that she would absolutely look after me as best she could as I would dine early. My room was fantastic but unfortunately an electrical fault required a change of room. Management upgraded me to an amazing suite overlooking the lakes. Aghadoe Heights Hotel could not do more. I decided to have dinner in my room and it was excellent. I used the Spa and pool both of which were very clean and relaxing.

Beautiful location, very friendly and attentive staff at hotel and spa, lovely rooms with fabulous views. Great relaxing vibe throughout our stay. Found the food to be a little mixed between lunch, dinner and breakfast but it certainly did not spoil our overall experience.
