Historic Anchorage Hotel

No air conditioning, alley smelled like a dumpster which in turn made our room smell like a dumpster. Curtains did not darken the room. When we checked in we were told parking was 3 or 4 blocks away and it would cost $20! This is not a safe part of town and not a terrible solution.

The staff was very helpful. The room was clean and quiet. The free breakfast was great. The area around had lots of restaurants and was close to the train depot.

Paper cups and plates at breakfast. Very poor breakfast, poor quality food, not very hot. No view despite being advertised as having a view. Shabby poor quality workmanship in the room.

Cannot recommend this hotel. Parking is an issue - after paying high prices for an average at best room, parking is not provided, and good luck finding a parking site on the street. Rooms are noisy - creaky floors above our room and could hear music and people talking. The staff are not the friendly Alaskans we encountered elsewhere.

Very friendly and helpful staff. Very walkable to gift shops, restaurants, hop on hop off and more. Great breakfast, too!

This was my second trip to Alaska. Visited with a family member and this time, decided to stay at the Historic Anchorage Hotel. The entire experience from the moment we arrived until the moment we left was amazing. It is a small boutique hotel , built in 1936 and remains true to to the period of time. There are only 26 rooms in the hotel so it is very guest centered and the staff is eager to meet your every need. My first trip, 3 years ago, was spent in a large chain hotel, which was nice, but nothing holds a candle to this one. The rooms are spacious and beautifully decorated. The staff is eager to help with suggestions such as places to visit or restaurants to try. I cannot emphasize enough how personal their service is, focused on your stay and your experience in Anchorage. I hope to return again and see some other sites that we didn't see this time and one thing is for sure. I will be staying in this hotel again. The general manager Terri and her amazing staff were such wonderful people! Highly, highly recommend this Hotel. Close to shops, downtown and the Alaska Railroad station.

We stayed in room 213 May 18-21. While it was no bargain it was considerably cheaper than the outrageous Hilton right next door. The room was somewhat small but adequate and clean. We never figured out how to use the TV, which was a good thing since it would've wasted our time. We weren't expecting it but included was a modest breakfast spread that included meats, scrambled eggs, breads and cereal. The location is smack in downtown close to restaurants. A ten-minute walk gets you the train station.

The location was perfect for our trip - walking distance from and to the Railroad depot. I loved the historic nature of the building. We did not have any ghostly experiences but I was hopeful!! We stayed in room 215. The room was clean and comfortable. The breakfast was satisfying. The front desk person showed me the panoramic photo of Anchorage and the binder of guest accounts which was fun to read!
