Very nice staff, everyone has been more than happy to help and chat, brilliant service. Clean room, big range of facilities, well maintained. Delicious food. Easy to get taxis buses and trains to other places and cities. Outdoors areas are beautiful, lots of places to walk. Matthew our server at dinner was very nice and helpful :)

My experience at Slalay Hall was massively positive. Excellent spa facilities and pool alongside a surprisingly well equipped gym. The highlight of the stay was the restaurant, some of the best food ive ever had accompanied by brilliant service from Matthew.

Had an amazing time at Slaley Hall. Rooms were amazing and so were food and drinks. Had Matthew serving us in the restaurant on our last night and his service was amazing , everything came very quickly and kept checking up on all of us. The restaurant food was absolutely unbelievable. Would 100% recommend!

This was about the 4th time we have visited on a Golf Break but not sure we would bother again. The whole place is starting to feel a bit tired and unloved. There was scaffolding around significant areas of the building but no obvious work taking place. The courses appeared less well maintained than before and rooms could only be described as adequate for what claims to be a luxury hotel. Evening meals had to be ordered in advance with about half a dozen choices for each course and same menu each day. It certainly didn't taste freshly prepared but was mostly edible. Bread buns were stale and just crumbled if you tried to break them or spread butter. On previous occasions we have been able to order from the main menu with a daily budget limit and paid the extra if we had wanted a more expensive meal. That worked better for us. Breakfast was OK - buffet style on the first morning but plated service on the second, presumably due to fewer guests staying. Only one, very slow coffee machine in operation. If there were a couple of people in front of you it might take 5 minutes to get a coffee. Forgot to take my room card to the spa and was sent back to get it (a 10 min return trip through the warren of a hotel) even though I did have my room card and id with me. Fair enough if that's the system, but the second time I visited (with my card this time) I was not required to show it. Service at the bar was friendly but pretty slow. Prices for a captive audience were as expected high, but there was a 10% discount for those on a golf stay however you seemed to have to ask for that each time and it didn't seem to be applied to all rounds. The Claret Jug (golfers bar) closed early when we were there so if you wanted to continue drinking and using the games room you needed to go to the main bar which was a long walk away. The biggest disappointment was the state of the Priestman course in particular. The layout is good but condition was worse than you would find at many municipal courses. The bunkers in particular were terrible with hard packed sand. Any attempt to rake them only left a scarred surface. The Hunting course was better maintained and did have sand in the bunkers but the less accomplished golfers in our group did find it a challenge due to many ditches, trees lining the dog-legged fairways and unrelenting rough. Better golfers with GPS watches and lasers will enjoy the challenge. Having played both courses and having a booking for the Priestman on the final day we enquired if it was possible to switch to the Hunting. We were initially told that was not possible due to it being fully booked, the told they could squeeze us in if each of our party of 12 paid a £25 supplement (£300 extra for the 3 tee times). We declined. In the 40 minutes that we were congregating and on the practise putting green I saw just a single 2 ball go off at the Hunting Course. On the second occasion the condition of the bunkers on the Priestman were even worse. We had endured some overnight rain but no attempt had been made to alleviate this with standing water in most bunkers. After 4 holes our group unilaterally decided to declare all bunkers GUR so that we could have a fair game. Flag positions did not appear to change during our stay. There was no way of knowing the position of the flag on the green through coloured flags or through daily position charts. The Pro was less than helpful. The charge of £50 for the use of a buggy was a bit exploitative for those of our group unable to manage 3 days of pretty arduous walking, but that is what it is. I'm a member of a couple of different golf groups and have 3 or 4 golf breaks each year. Few destinations offer such good layouts as Slaley Hall but for value and service there are better options.
